Anoka, Minnesota is known as a city of innovation. The city was founded in 1881 by farmers who wanted to create a location where they could do their own business and be close to the railroad. BellSouth became one of the largest providers of telecommunications services in North America and operate more than 130 operating stations throughout North America. In 2008, AT&T announced it would sell its contributions to BellSouth for $48 billion. This sale completed a series of divestitures by AT&T which led to the creation of five new telco divisions: Time Warner Cable Inc., Sprint Nextel Corp., Comcast Corporation, Charter Communications Inc., and Bright House Networks LLC. Anoka is a city in the U.S. state of Minnesota, located on the west bank of the Missoula River. The population was 382 at the 2010 census. The name Anoka comes from angora, an animal used in clothing and other items made from its fleece. The current spelling is most likely derived from Swedish settlers who pronounce "ankara" as "an-kuh-ra". The first European to visit what is now Anoka County was Captain Pierre Le Moyne in 1696 when he and his expedition explored what is now Montana Territory east of the Rocky Mountains. He named a creek after French explorer Jacques Marquette, Sieur de La Salle's nephew and official translator on his 1698 journey across North America. In 1824, land grants were given to Alexander Ramsey, John Armstrong, and James Kapp for farming purposes within present-day Anoka County borders. In 1828, Minnesota Territorial Legislature created new counties within Dakota Territory following Wisconsin's victory in the Mexican–American War that year; Anoka was one of these newly formed counties. In 1851, Minneapolis & St Paul Railway Co., predecessor of Metro Transit started construction through downtown Minneapolis with wagons pulled by horses on flatcars over tracks laid down by farmers across wooded hills south of where it would eventually become Pioneer Avenue today near Target Field; part way up these hills was where present day Wright Drive meets Interstate 35W (now Snelling Avenue). This wagon road called northwest from downtown Minneapolis down Mennonite Boulevard which crossed Hastings Road just north of Wright Drive today before turning northeast onto Broadway past Nicollet Mall until reaching Hopkins Road at US 50 (Hastings Boulevard) about a mile southwest of Terminal Station today’s Hennepin County Government Center building built in 1903 adjacent to United Airlines Terminal 7 immediately east of I-35W/I-94 exit 29A just north of Target Field next to Stadium Commons tomorrow night game day access off I-35W at Exit 290B just southwest/southwest corner intersection with Cedar Rapids Street

Anoka is the second-largest city in Minnesota after Minneapolis. In 1857, Anoka Township was organized and named for John Aspinwall of London, England. The first post office opened in Anoka on July 1, 1858. In 1865, Anoka Township merged with other townships to form Dakota Township. Dakota Township was renamed Anoka County in 1900. In 1912, the City of Anoka was created from portions of Dakota County and Hennepin County when they were merged into the state of Minnesota. The name change came about because it had been proposed by Mayor Rudolph Wiegand that "Anoka" be changed to "Minnesota". According to United States Census Bureau reports from 1920 through 2010, the total population of Anka ranged from 3 to 11 citizens with an average of 7 persons per household (the highest number being 10 people and the lowest 4). The racial makeup of the population has varied over time; as recently as 1980 there were no blacks living within 5 miles of downtown anka while today there are more than 20% black residents according to2010 UZS stats Additionally since 2000 Asians have increased significantly with many families moving into town during this time period This has led some people to believe that white flight may have something do with this increase
