The city was founded by farmers who settled in the area after a fire destroyed their barns. They began to trade goods and products with other communities in the area, and soon enough, there were stores and businesses located throughout the city. One of these businesses was called the Armoury, which became known for its quality firearms products. In 1907, Gunsmiths Shop #2 was opened on Main Street in Anoka by Wm. Hildebrandt and his son-in-law Dr. John Schieffer. This shop continued to produce high-quality firearms until 1949 when it closed its doors permanently due to economic reasons. From then on, gun parts production only took place at various manufacturing plants located outside of Anoka until 1976 when it finally reopened thanks to a $1 million donation from entrepreneur Tim Hunt Sr.. At this time,gun Parts NYC Inc., based out of New York City became the new owner of Gunsmiths Shop #2 and continues to operate it as a museum today!
