Anoka is a city in the U.S. state of Minnesota, and the seat of Anoka County. As of the 2010 census, the population was 29,641. A post office called Davenport was established in 1827 and remained in operation until 1955. The city name originated from General James Wilkinson's Order No., 5th Infantry Regiment which fought at Battle Of Winter Quarters during the American Civil War while stationed here under General David Lane's commandant corps - Wilkinson later served as Mayor of Minneapolis from 1904 to 1906 In 1898–99, local businessmen organized Plan 9:9 (9/8/98 to 3/1/99), an effort to bring attention to downtown streetscape problems across three different districts In 1903 when City Council Member George Swanson became Mayor Pro Tempore following Alderman John Sewell's death that year, Swanson ordered plans drawn up for new construction including streetcar lines between downtown and western neighborhoods - these plans were not fulfilled until after World War I when streetcar services began regular service In 1907–08 Johan Ludvig Zetterberg designed a major new civic building complex on South Ninth Street – this included two churches (First Presbyterian Church and Christ Episcopal Cathedral) as well as four schools: one high school (Hennepin School), two middle schools (Popejoys School & Central High School), one public library system branch (Lutheran Library) addition as well as other businesses such as candy stores etc.; this complex remains today known variously simply as "Zetterberg Park" or simply "The Zone". This urban planning feat saw Zetterberg awarded an honorary doctorate from Princeton University in 1916 along with Daniel Burnham who had previously worked on designing City Hall there On October 1st 1909 citizens voted overwhelmingly to change their name from "DavenPORT" to "ANOKA" after rejecting an earlier proposal by Vice President William Howard Taft which proposed anglicizedonyms such as "DARE", "STAMFORD", or even just ""ANA"" - this naming decision formalized Answered Prayer becoming official religious title for all residents regardless of race or ethnicity beginning January 1st 1910 .Although originally envisioned primarily for agricultural use due to its good location relative thereto—particularly along waterways like the Anoka River—the development gradually attracted more commercial entities over time including hotels/motels etc.; finally reaching its current level by 1978 when ANOKA REALTY CORP united with Hennepin County TO FORM THE CITY OF MN INC . Finally erected outside present day Riverside Drive & Seventh Avenue N adjacent to METRO MARTA train station late last year .Today ANOKA holds many unique cultural attractions including several award winning museums like Sverdlovsk Fine Arts Museum nestled among beautiful forested hills just west of town center offering stunning views overlooking downtown every day of the week starting at 10am www.sanmanorartmuseum."
