Richardson and Postmaster Colonel Moses Haddad as part of an east-west commerce route connecting Minneapolis and St. Paul across the Mississippi River. The name Anoka comes from "Hanuta", meaning "settlement on a hill." In 1876, Anoka became home to the State Capitol for Minnesota, which served as both a state government building and legislature until it moved to SaintPaul in 1905. In 1925, Anoka became one of 128 communities incorporated into Ramsey County, MN under county government reorganization following statehood statutes enacted that year.
