In 1941, following World War II's end and with German forces retreating from Eastern Europe into what is now Poland,[2] YpsiILanta agreed to become an important stop on military supplies bound for Nazi Germany[3]. As a result of this agreement between the United States government and local business leaders,[4], both sides shared responsibility for maintaining peace within downtown YpsiLantas while also providing access to resources essential for postwar reconstruction (Wickerham 1992).
