Woodhaven is a small town in the Kalamazoo Valley of Michigan. It is located in Grand Rapids County, about 12 miles (19 km) south of the city of Kalamazoo. The population was 1,817 at the 2010 census. Woodhaven is part of the Muskegon Heights–Holland Township School District. The first settler in what is now Woodhaven was Amos Peck, who arrived in 1824. He and his family built a log cabin on the site that still stands today. A post office called Woodsville was established in 1835, and by 1840 it had grown to include a store and two homes. The community name originated with John Ladd, who donated $100 to help build a school building for the townspeople. In 1849, Drury Wagon Works became one of the first businesses in town when owner Solomon Dibble opened a wagon shop on US-12 south of town. By 1860, several other businesses had joined Dibble's shop including an bakery, grocery store and cotton gin. In 1865, Dibble sold his business to George Haggerty, who operated it until 1901 when he sold it to Nathan Sperry Jr.. Sperry ran it as a general store until 1938 when it closed down due to prohibition laws which made alcohol not legal in Michigan at that time. In 1948-1949 local resident Harry Gibbs rebuilt and reopened Sperry's Store as the first all-steel grocery store west of Detroit after being destroyed by fire just two years earlier! It wasn't until 1970 when local resident Rick Hubbard purchased and renovated Wagon Works property making it home toWOODHAVEN'S FIRST GAS STATION! This gas station served as both retail/diner space as well as providing access to natural gas wells drilled nearby! Today woodhavengasstation continues operation serving customers from east central MI right up through Lansing & beyond

Woodhaven is a town in the US state of Michigan. The population was 1,903 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Grand Rapids–Holland Township Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was founded in 1867 as a result of the merger of two villages: Woodhaven and Harbor Springs. On July 7, 1868, it became a city with a population of 599 people. In 1871, the city annexed the adjacent village of Holland Park. In 1898, Woodhaven merged with neighboring town Holland Park to become one municipality with a population of 2,332 people. That year also saw the opening of its first schoolhouse and church; both were built by local citizens under contract from Detroit schools superintendent Horace Mann. In 1916, due to World War I efforts by local residents to help support their military units stationed in nearby camps or battles overseas, Woodhaven's mayor established an unemployment insurance fund which continues today as oneof its most important functions. During World War II, large quantities of munitions were produced at what is now known as "Wulfen plant" on Cass Avenue in Woodhaven; these products ended up contaminating many villagers' water supplies and soil near where they live to this day.. This led to some lawsuits filed against Wulfen company owners but no definitive solutions found until 1978 when woodhaven township trustees voted unanimously to buy all collateral damage cleanup costs from Wulfen company owners for $1 million dollars.. In 2000WWII-era homes (predominantly frame) were replaced by new single family homes built using sustainable building practices that are still in use today (See article on "Woodhaven Village Homes").
The town of Woodhaven was named after General George Washington's land grant of 2000 acres to the local family in 1796. The first permanent settler in the area was Nicholas Thayer, who built a cabin on the present-day site of the University of Michigan in 1824. In 1829, Mr. and Mrs. John Dickey bought 640 acres (2 square miles) south of Woodhaven from Nicholas Thayer for $5 per acre. They opened a small general store and began growing crops. The Dickels donated their holdings to the university in 1881. The town developed slowly until World War II, when it grew rapidly due to military production and housing needs. During that time, much of what is now Woodhaven was built as part of nearby M-113 Army Airfield which served as an agricultural center for southwest Michigan during World War II
