Woodhaven is a small town in the Kalamazoo-Portage Ridge area of Portage County, Michigan, United States. The population was 1,821 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Lansing–East Lansing–Rochester, MI Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in what is now Woodhaven was John Wesley who arrived in 1828. The first post office was established here in 1835 and named for Samuel W. Woodward (1800-1871). In 1854, a schoolhouse and windmill were built here by Mrs. Elizabeth Linton on land donated by her husband Hiram Linton. In 1865, an Act of Congress designated the township as part of a newly created district called "Kalamazoo Township". This act also provided for the erection of a courthouse and jail within its boundaries. When Kalamazoo Township was abolished in 1965, Woodhaven remained annexed to Clinton Township until it too was abolished in 1985 when that township became unincorporated territory within Portage County again. Woodhaven has one elementary school - Friendship School - which serves grades kindergarten through eighth grade; two middle schools - Highland Park Middle Schools and Northside Middle Schools; and one high school -Kalamazoo Valley Community College High School- which serves ninth through 12th grades.

The town of Woodhaven, Michigan is located in the northeast corner of the state and rests on a small peninsula formed by the Grand River. The population was 1,362 at the 2010 census, down from 1,541 in 2000. It is part of Muskegon Heights Township. The first permanent settler in what would become Woodhaven was Nicholas J. Kapp with his family in 1827. Kapp had homesteaded land on the east side of the peninsula and began trading goods with other settlers for saltwater fish he found along the riverbank. He also traded timber and other goods for flour that was being produced by neighboring villages near Lansing. In 1830, Kapp erected a log cabin on his farmstead which served as a home until 1840 when he built a larger cabin named "Lansing" which still stands today within 100 feet of its original site. In 1835, John Laughlin moved to what is now Woodhaven and platted four blocks of land northwest of present day Perkins Road (now Gratiot Avenue). Laughlin built three brick buildings – one near where Perkins Road crosses Gratiot Avenue and two others off Gratiot Avenue just south of current day Park Street – which are still standing today as part of what is now Lansing's Old Town commercial district. The first school in Woodhaven was built here in 1837 using an experimental building constructed by Andreas Wiseman which seated twenty-six students inside an open air classroom heated by wood fires
