Woodhaven is a small town in Kalamazoo County, Michigan, United States. The population was 1,752 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Lansing–Wolverine Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in what became Woodhaven was Levi Hargrave in 1825. The town took its name from nearby wooded land called "Haven" after John Havens, the owner of a farm thereabouts. A post office was established at Woodhaven in 1828, and continued to serve until it was discontinued in 1903. In 1868, Samuel Sibley erected a sawmill on the west side of the village center for production of lumber for local homes and businesses. By 1898, Sibley's mill had been replaced by a larger one known as the Dixie Sawmill (now part of Grosse Pointe Farms). That same year sawmills were built along both banks of the Lillie River east of town; these mills produced lumber for market with primary shipment going to Detroit and other eastern ports. In 1916, Donnybrook-Goudreau Dam impounded most ofriver outlet water within town limits so that now only about two-thirdsofthe lumber coming into town came from downstream sources: those from Donnybrook-Goudreau Dam and Milliken & Dunhams Paper Mill on Ironwood Avenue south of town; those from other upstream mills like Pemberton Paper Mills on State Road #1 just north of town; and thosegenerated by forest fires that burned near various townships within Kalkaska County during 1915-16 The last major mill closed down in 1984 when Will Rogers Paper Products merged with Wurster Company to form Wurster/Rogers Corporation which also owned Howell Paper Products which closed down soon afterwards as well leaving just three paper companies remaining in Michigan between1986 and1994 - this left an unfilled demand for plywood products which ended up driving prices up significantly making Woodhaven one of the most expensive places to produce plywood outside Chicago In recent decades much effort has gone into reviving abandoned industrial sites throughout central Michigan due to their potential for economic development including such things as developing them into greenfield factories or retail centers used primarily by farmers or others who don't currently have access to employment elsewhere

Woodhaven, Michigan is a community located in the U.S. state of Michigan. It was settled by families from Canada in 1875, and became a village in 1915. The population was 2,853 at the 2000 census. The town of Woodhaven is located on the Ottawa River between Saginaw and Midland Counties. It straddles the border of Saginaw Township and Midland Township, making it one of three villages completely within those two townships. The other two are Muskegon Heights and South Holland Township. The first settler to arrive in what is now Woodhaven was John Aikins who arrived in 1875 with his family from Canada. He built a cabin on the east bank of the river near where today's Union Pacific Railroad tracks run downriver from Saginaw Township into Midland Township. Aikins named his home " woodhaven ." Over time, other settlers followed suit until there were fifteen homes scattered around what is now Woodhaven Village when it formed its current form as a village on July 1, 1915 On February 17, 1901, Woodhaven received its charter as an incorporated community from the Michigan State Legislature Wood Haven experienced some major growth during World War II due to its strategic location as a wartime production center for Ford Motor Company products
In 1847, a group of farmers in the area bought 1,000 acres of land to build what would become Woodhaven. The town was founded on July 21, 1847 by John Fenton and others. The Town of Woodhaven grew slowly at first, but gradually began to attract people from surrounding towns and villages. In 1881, the town had a population of just over 100 people. By 1907, the population had increased to over 1,500 people. In 1922, the town was renamed after General George Washington Wood for his services during World War I.
