The town was founded in 1855 by lumbermen from Minnesota and Wisconsin who were looking for land to build a mills. Woodhaven is a village in Washtenaw County, Michigan, United States. The population was 1,788 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Grand Rapids–Holland Township government. The Village of Woodhaven was established in 1872 as a result of the consolidation of two adjacent villages: Harbor Springs and White Sands. The first post office operated in 1875; it was renamed Woodhaven in 1907 after local congressman John F. Wood (D-MI). The Village of Woodhaven experienced several growth spurts during the early 21st century including construction of a new elementary school, annexation by Holland Township, and development of a new full-time police department which opened its doors on July 1, 2006. In 2013, voters approved annexing neighboring Edison Heights to form an even bigger village called "New Town".
