Woodhaven is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan, on the Grand River. The population was 5,848 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Flint metropolitan area and is the county seat of Genesee County. The town was founded in 1834 by John Dickson, a Scottish settler who had come to America as an interpreter for Lewis Cass and other American fur traders. Dickson named his settlement after his paternal grandfather, Woodville in Scotland, where he had been living before sailing westward along the Mississippi River with other Scots emigrants in 1819. Dickson's community prospered until 1837, when a severe drought caused many farmers to leave for lack of water resources. A new community was founded near modern day Cadillac that year by John Ladd, one of Dickson's descendants. In 1840, Woodhaven became part of what was then called Shiawassee Township; it eventually became unincorporated territory within Genesee County. In 1860, it became a town when its own charter was granted under State law No. 792 (now known as section 9 of township map #2). The first post office opened in 1865; it closed about 1930 due to mail service being provided by Lansing-based Northern Michigan Railway Company instead which continued through that town into today's Woodhaven Municipal Center (WMC). In 1898-99 WMC hosted an international exposition entitled "The World's Columbian Exposition". Many items made during that timeorthat include a locomotive from Detroit and parts from Henry Ford's Dearborn Plant were displayed there including some pieces now housed at the National Museum of American History in Washington D.C.. As late as 1951 most all local businesses were located inside WMC while downtown business continued using Lansing Streets and avenues outside except for Firestone Tire & Rubber which built their plant on State Road 2A across from WMC east side until 1984 when they moved their operations back into their old headquarters building on Third Street just east of Gratiot Avenue between Washtenaw Avenue and Woodward Avenue (now home to Ihbehnia LLC). In less than two decades since opening its doors as an open enrollment school District #1 students have grown up calling this place home “Where It All Begins”

Woodhaven is a small town in Lapeer County, Michigan, United States. The population was 1,541 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Lansing–Warren–Dearborn Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settlement in what is now Woodhaven was made on the present site by a party of Methodist missionaries in 1825. The name means "wooden place." A post office called Woodhaven was established in 1827, and continued in operation until it was discontinued in 1907. From 1830 to 1840, about seventy French Canadians settled here; they were led by Pierre-Jacques Duchesne and Jules Dumont. In 1847, Chauncey Washburn built a sawmill on the River Rouge near present-day Saginaw Township and started trading with local farmers. He also built a gristmill and store nearby. In 1861, Washburn sold his holdings to John Prentice for $10,000 cash. In 1865, Prentice founded the city of Detroit; woodhaven became part of that city's boundaries when it was incorporated as a village in 1870. The mill still stands today as Wayne State University's Old Main Building (now known as North Hall). In 1916, Wm Henson organized tenacious local entrepreneurs into the "Village Improvement Association" to promote self-reliance within the community while promoting development along Woodward Avenue from Saginaw Township to Carlsbad Township across from Orchard Park Cemetery; these efforts eventually resulted in over 200 homes being built between 1916 and 1930 on parcels including much of what is now Forest Hills Drive NW near Woodhaven High School (now known as Metropark South). Many pioneers who had played an important role early on in this community are buried there: such as Chauncey Washburn (1847-1931), James Fenton (1851-1937), Wm Henson (1862-1945), Augustus Nunnally (1868-1950), Dora Wilson (1900-)
The town of Woodhaven was founded in 1873 by pioneer farmers and lumbermen. The town grew rapidly, becoming a statewide center for woodworking and other manufacturing. In the 1920s, the town became known for its exclusive Kolb's Lake development, which featured a large golf course and luxurious estates. The development closed in the 1970s, but has been reborn as a popular tourist destination.
