The town grew quickly due to its location close to shipping routes and its availability for lumber production from nearby forests. In 1925, Woodhaven became part of Grand Rapids and had a population of 23,000 residents. It remained an agricultural center until World War II when manufacturing began to grow in importance locally as well as abroad. Today, Woodhaven is home to several sizable companies including Ford Motor Co., General Motors Co., Sears Holdings Corp., Jardine Matheson & Co., and Mastercard Inc.. Although now considered a small town by most standards, Woodhaven has seen significant growth over the years due to its active role in local community life and its ability to attract businesses and people from around the region. The town also offers excellent cultural attractions such as the National Historic District which includes buildings dating back to 1837 and features art galleries, public displays, theaters, shops, restaurants and more than 25 miles (40 km) of hiking trails connecting different parts of Woodhaven with each other as well as Great Lakes Shoreline National Park across the river from town.

Woodhaven is a city in Wayne County, Michigan, United States. The population was 20,859 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Detroit metropolitan area and is the second most populous city in Wayne County after Detroit. The first European settlers in what is now Woodhaven were Germans who arrived from Silesia in 1814. They named their new town "Glen Arbor" after the trees that grew near their farmstead on the western edge of present-day Woodhaven Township. The township was organized in 1834, and by 1840 had a population of 350 people. In 1851, Woodhaven became a part of Wayne County, and its population increased to 2,382 by 1870. In 1899, General Motors Corporation built a manufacturing plant on land it had acquired west of downtown Detroit for $1 million. This facility would become one of GM's largest plants and employing over 100 workers when it opened in 1901. By 1912, GM had moved its entire operations to this new factory complex which employed 3,000 workers including 1,500 women who made tires and other components for automobiles.GM closed its Glendale plant in 1957 but continued to produce cars there until 1984; this was followed by an engine production facility until 1991 before retiring all operations at both sites together as Onegmotive LLC effective January 1st 1993 (see also: glendale) In 1992 Chrysler Corporation vacated its Elmhurst Assembly Plant following consolidation with Fiat Chrysler Automobiles SA/UK plc into Chrysler Group AG worldwide (see also: elmhurst). With only 54 employees remaining at Elmhurst after four years Of operation it closed on December 15th 1994 having outlived its original purpose as an assembly plant for Chryslers pickup trucks
Woodhaven was a small town in Michigan located on the east bank of the Ottawa River. It was chartered in 1837, but not established until 1847 when it became a part of the City of Ottawa. The population of Woodhaven peaked at just over 1000 in 1850, but declined to about 500 by 1860. However, it grew rapidly during the late 19th century as sawmills and other industrial operations were developed in the area. In 1907, Woodhaven was annexed by the City of Detroit and its population decreased to around 700 by 1920. However, it again increased rapidly during World War II as war production moved to the area. After the war, Woodhaven experienced a declining trend until its current figure (around 1400) emerged in recent decades.
