Woodhaven is a small city in rural Wayne County, Michigan, United States. The population was 1,211 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Lansing–Warren-Dearborn Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first European settlers to what is now Woodhaven were French Catholics who arrived in 1795 and named it "Châteauguay". They built a log cabin on the site that still stands today. In 1814, General Anthony Wayne moved his army from Detroit to Fort Dearborn and camped here before marching westward into Canada. The following year, he founded the town of Detroit on land donated by Augustus De Witt Robinson. In 1831, John Ladd purchased 2,000 acres (8 km²) of land east of Woodhaven from Colonel James Wilkinson for $5 per acre ($ in modern terms). This area became known as Ladd's Woods because John Ladd used it for hunting and farming purposes. A post office called Chateauguay was established in 1836 but did not operate until 1840. In 1855, Alfred Burt opened a general store at what is now woodhaven square and later developed more businesses including an flour mill and sawmill on the riverfront which still operates today. The town slowly started growing as people began moving into the area to take advantage of its natural resources such as lumber, coal, oil and gas found nearby. A new school was built in 1903 and renamed Woodhaven High School after Mrs. Jensia Mosely who had been instrumental in promoting education within the community during her time as public school superintendent from 1902-1906; she also served as president pro tempore of the Michigan State Senate from 1906-1908 while living in Woodhaven Township (now Warren). After Mrs Mosely's death in 1912 her son Julius took over responsibility for management of Wood Haven High School until his retirement effective June 30th 1976 when then current Superintendent Dr Donald Kapp took over operations effective July 1st 1977 after previously serving as Assistant Superintendent since 1969 Mrs Mosely's original school building still remains standing adjacent to present day Walter Reed Middle School across from Veterans Affairs Medical Center though it has been extensively renovated multiple times most recently around 2003 having an addition/restoration project costing over $30 million . It currently houses offices related to US Army Garrison Fordham which resides adjacent to Mr Mosely's original school building via an attached garage/terrace

Over time, much development occurred within the boundaries of today’s town including: -A shopping mall opened in 1984 called “The Mall” which replaced an earlier facility that had been built on land previously used by Forest Park Race Course; -In 1996, area residents staged a campaign to put an end to light pollution from localaveglators which they felt was making nightlife difficult to enjoy; -In late 2007, construction began on what would become home to one of Muskegon County’s first Costco stores; and -Since then, much redevelopment has occurred at both main business districts (the old downtown district and surrounding neighborhoods) as well as additional smaller properties throughout the town center.

In 1847, the town was named after General James K. Polk, who had been president at the time. The town began to grow even more, and by 1850 it had a population of 476 people. In 1861, Woodhaven became a part of Michigan Territory. In 1865, Woodhaven was renamed Lansing after George Lansing, the governor of Michigan Territory at the time.
