After the Battle of Detroit, General Wilkinson turned his attention back to Canada and announced his plans for a new campaign against the Canadians. He called for volunteers from all across America to join him in this effort and marched southward into Canada. On November 15th, 1815, he finally arrived at Montreal after taking weeks on horseback through difficult terrain. There he issued an order proclaiming Canadian independence from Great Britain! Although it was short-lived (the Union Flag flew over Montreal until 1830), this event marks the beginning of Canadian history inMichigan! After successfully concluding his campaign against Canada, General Wilkinson turned his attention back to America once again...but not before delivering one final blow against Indian tribes living along the Great Lakes Region! These raids led to terrible losses for American forces; however, they also taught the Indians a valuable lesson: never cross American soldiers without consequence!
