Wixom, Michigan is a small city in Lapeer County, Michigan, United States. The population was 584 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Lansing–East Lansing Metropolitan Statistical Area. Wixom is known for its arts and culture scene, including the world's first music festival (the Grand Rapids International Film Festival) and its annual Poetry Slams. It also has a large agricultural industry that employs over 100 people in agriculture and crop production. The first settler in what would become Wixom was Jonas Salk who founded Kewaunee Township in 1836. In 1870, John Davenport donated land to make up the town of Wixom which had a population of seventy-six people when it was incorporated as a village on October 1st of that year. The village became an incorporated city on January 1st, 1907 with a population of 3200 residents. On July 1st of that year the name change to Wixom after Jens Jensen Wrixon who had been mayor since 1906 During World War II there were many military installations around the area including Camp David which housed 5000 troops and 2 atomic bomb test sites nearbyincluding Mount Kilimanjaro Air Force Baseand White Sands Missile Range On July 15th 1945 local resident Wendell Berry became the first person to walk on Mars when he set off from his home on Haggerty Road near campus

Wixom is a city in Muskegon County, Michigan, United States. The population was 16,711 at the 2010 census. Wixom is the largest city in Muskegon County and the third-largest city in Michigan after Detroit and Flint. The first settler in what is now Wixom was John Bowers who built a cabin on the east side of town on November 18, 1824. By 1830, there were 10 settlers living in what is now Wixom. The first post office was established in 1833 and named "Niles". In 1836, James Sutherlin organized a school for children which he christened "Wixom Infant School". In 1840, his son James founded the First Presbyterian Church located near present day Main Street and Simonds Road. On October 7 of that year, Wixom became a village under its own government with nine members. In 1848, Abraham Ruffin surveyed land to form what would become downtown Wixom from parts of present day Elmwood Avenue and Old State Road. He laid out streets parallel to Water Street (now accessed via Washington Boulevard) as well as Straight Avenue which ran north-south. There were no sidewalks then so citizens walked their horses or walked between buildings where possible. Downtown business started up soon afterwards with Ruffin’s store being one of the first businesses open when it opened on February 25th 1850 In 1865–1866 local developer George Hennepin laid out blocks west of Water Street called Park Blocks which included many modern buildings including City Hall (now known as Woodward Place). This area has been redeveloped into residential areas such as North Park Plaza and South Park Plaza When US Highway 12 entered town from Canada it bypassed downtown making it difficult for residents to get around without driving south or taking Centre Street east which led directly to Interstate 94 In 1957–1958WDOT constructed an expressway connecting I-94 with Grand Rapids via US 12 and M-43 interchange creating what is today known as exit 5 off I-94 near today's Grand River Drive . This project also added much needed traffic relief onto Norris Road during rush hour
Wixom was founded in 1892 by George W. Naylor and his wife, Emma. The town was named after the headquarters of the Michigan Central Railroad. In 1916, Wixom became a city and the first incorporated municipality in the county.
