Wixom is a city in the Grand Rapids metropolitan area of Michigan, United States. The population was 21,853 at the 2010 census. It is the third-largest city in Wixom County and the sixth-largest city in the state of Michigan[1]. The first organized shooting protection system in Wixom was formed on October 5, 1903 when two fishermen found a rifle Bore out of its scabbard at an abandoned lighthouse and brought it to their house for cleaning. They christened this new system "The Gun Club". A few weeks later, they set up a range for members to shoot at dogsleds coming down Muskegon River. In 1907, Wixom City Council voted to establish a municipal police department with jurisdiction over all public places within the city limits. The first officer assigned to patrol these areas was John Halsey who served until 1914. In 1908, an ordinance was passed by Wixom City Council authorising citizens to bring firearms into any park or open space within town limits for use by civilians as long as no licensed shooting galleries were located therein. On November 3rd 1906, Wixom's first gun show took place and featured handguns from Illinois and New York as well as rifles from Germany and Russia. At that time there were only three dealers selling firearms in Michigan: Winchester Repeating Arms Company (now known as Colt), Purdy Firearms Company (later known as Remington) and Van Ness Armory (later known as Browning). On July 15th 1909, Mayor Jerald McCullough dedicated a park adjacent to downtown which would become home to both the Municipal Police Department Headquarters Building and Municipal Shooting Range Incorporation where citizens could fire weapons without having prior permission from police officers or taking scores tests before being allowed access. On December 1st 1912 Commissioners James Trenchard Greenleaf And Harry Laughlin unveiled plans for what would become today's downtown core which included Plummer Park between State Street and Woodward Avenue across from Iverson’s department store[2] . With this growing center business activity increased alongsidethe prohibition laws introduced by Governor Mary Pickford which made it illegal for individuals under twenty years old to possess or sell arms or ammunition without buying them from licensed dealers[3]. This led to increased crime rates around downtown due mostly to bootlegging activities going on near Iverson’s department store where many people circumvented prohibition by purchasing items such as liquor not meant for human consumption through window displays inside[4]. As gun control laws became stricter throughout America during World War II street crime decreased while smuggling intensified due NRA propaganda stating that carrying arms makes one more deterrent against national communism[5]. However accordingto study conductedby Wayne LaPierre upon repeal of ban on assault weapons back in 2004 almost 50% percent of crimes committed with handguns occur within 500 feet of schools & playgrounds leaving innocent bystanders vulnerable These highcrime areas have now been renamed "Gun free zones" because of how easy it is now for criminals illegality with no fear of prosecution

In 1855, Wixom had its first post office when George Bemis opened a store at 4th Street and 1st Avenue N.W., also serving as a landing for traders coming ashore from their boats along Lake Huron during that era. By 1860, there were over fifty businesses operating within Wixom limits! In 1865, Augustus Woodward built his sawmill just outside of town – gristmill operations began in 1868 production! However, after he lost his sawmill equipment patent #2719 during legal proceedings surrounding mills run out of business due to lack of competition; Woodward essentially stopped milling altogether around 1870 due to financial difficulties – but his legacy lives on through his son Augustus Woodward II who operates a modern wood-fired mill today adjacent to downtown Wixom! From 1865 until 1893 when new county lines were drawn following American Civil War results; much of what is now Muskegon Township was part of Kalkaska County - including parts of present-day Saginaw Township - while other portions including most current Oakland County became part of Lapeer County according to US Census Bureau Map data! This included extensive land swaps taking place between various parties involved - some involving violence! In 1893 however, following newly organized Michigan Territory into which Lower Peninsula would be merged following federal Government reorganization - all land within territorial borders became official U.S.$ property!! Game hunting rights were also Granted soon afterwards!! Consequently starting about 1895 activities around downtown began again thanks largely thereto!!! It wasn't until 1907 when fresh water supplies arrived from an underground stream called Whitefish Creek providing power for industry that commercial activity returned !!Thus giving Downtown another major boost !! As mentioned earlier Downtown has continued developing rapidly into its current form since then!!!!!

Wixom is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan and the county seat of Oakland County. The population was 362 at the 2010 census, down from 479 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Lansing–Warren–Dearborn, MI metropolitan area. Wixom was founded on October 1, 1858 by Gustavus Fritsch and his wife Anna Maria Wright as a station on the first stagecoach route to Detroit. The city annexed portions of Hamtramck Township in 1969, following a vote by the City Council to annex these areas because they were considered underserved by other nearby communities. In 2002, Wixom became one of only two cities in Michigan (the other being Ann Arbor) to receive an automatic increase in its charter status, due to population growth and improved economic prospects. Wixom is located at 48°14′47″N 83°57′40″W (48°23′24″N 84°02′12″W), about east-southeast of Detroit and west-northwest of Grand Rapids. According to United States Census Bureau data, Wixom has a total area of , all land.According to local historian Dragan Popovic there are over 350 historic buildings within walking distance or less; many dating back more than 100 years! As with most Midwestern towns during the early 20th century - when cars didn't even exist - life revolved around agriculture and fishing which gave birth to several churches (Methodist & Lutheran). There were also few factories or businesses outside town so that people actually got paid for their work...and some did quite well doing it! One such individual was Jens Rasmussen who started his own Ford dealership near downtown after World War I until he sold it in 1922 because he could no longer maintain it given how busy things had become outside town! After WWI ended things slowed down again until 1945 when things picked up with industry going back into full swing thanks to Postwar II demand for war materiel! By 1951 there were still very few automobiles on our streets so auto dealerships like Rasmussen's had really taken off! However this changed with compact pickups becoming popular as people bought them instead due largely to fuel prices dropping which made trucking much more affordable... something that we take for granted today but wasn't possible back then
Wixom is a town in the U.S. state of Michigan, located on the east bank of the Grand River in Lower Michigan. The population was 5,052 at the 2010 census, making it the most populous town in Northern Michigan. Wixom is home to Western Michigans first high school and has been called "the heart of Western Michigan". The town was founded by George Washington Carver in 1887 as a small farming community on the banks of the Grand River. In 1897, Carver donated land to create what became Wixom High School. The school was originally named for Reverend John Wesley Hinton, an Episcopal priest who had served as assistant pastor at nearby Kalkaska Methodist Church from 1875-1891. In 1927, Wixom voters approved merging with neighboring East Lansing to form one city with a population of over 100,000 residents. In 1951, Wixom lost its status as a separate municipality when it merged with East Lansing once again under then-Mayor Harry Elmer Barnes’s administration. Under Barnes’s leadership, Wixom became known as one of metro Detroit's " Municipalities 2" - meaning that it shared services with two other large municipalities in Metro Detroit (Macy's Township and Hamtramck Township), but enjoyed more autonomy than either entity ever did within their own city limits. After Mayor James Knowles' election victory in November 2006 and his pledge to increase municipal control over local businesses and services within Wixom's borders - including limits on zoning changes and decisions about where specific projects could be built - many residents began to voice objections to this new direction for their townspeople. On February 15th 2007, during Knowles' final year in office before becoming governor of Michigan; shots were fired at an open house held by Knowles' successor Charley Blanchard at his home just north of downtown Wixoms main square after attendees expressed concerns about increasing government control over local affairs; subsequent investigations revealed no wrongdoing on part of either party involved
