Wixom, Michigan is a city in the Kalamazoo County, Michigan area. The population was 64,902 at the 2010 census. Wixom is one of the smallest cities in Michigan and it has only 1 square mile (0.4 km²) of land area. The city is part of the Grand Rapids–Wixom Metropolitan Statistical Area and it is one of four cities in that metropolitan area with a population over 100,000 people. The first tool made in Wixom was a stone axe. A man named David Potter began to make tools out of wood in 1826. In 1828 he started making beaters from an old hoe handle and a piece of advice-bone that he had found on his farm. He called these beaters "Potter's Hoes." He also started using iron nails to hold the tool handles together so they wouldn't break when he swung them around like a hammock. This early toolmaking activity helped start Wixom's Tool Steering Company which continues today as Steward Iron Works Limited Partnership with main offices located at 5200 S Redford Road in Wixom Township, MI 48801-5200 In 1829, Potters son Amos started manufacturing axes for himself and other local farmers out of an old sawmill blade that he had found on his property Amos' Axe Making Company became the dominant player in this new industry until 1837 when two brothers named John Lappin took over and changed its name to 'Lappin Brothers Axe Manufacturing Company'. John Lappin ran this company until 1861 when it merged into what is now known as Armour & Co., Inc., which still resides at 611 E Main Street in downtown Lansing, Michigan . On December 12th 1830, Gilbert Greenough founded Greenough & Sons Mfg CO with headquarters located at 9 S Main Street in downtown Detroit Heights (now Ann Arbor) while working for Cushman & Wakefield livery horse dealers Augustus Fenton bought out Gilbert Greenough’s interest after leaving Cushman & Wakefield to become their general manager eleven months later on February 8th 1831 . From this point forward Greenough& Sons became famous for producing quality items such as axles and forge parts used by many automakers including Cadillac , Ford , Dodge etc... Augustus Fenton passed away suddenly after winning a bid for control of Geo Tractor Products during the Panic Of 1893 leaving behind many unfinished projects including becoming Detroit’s first millionaire...In 1896 Geo Tractor Products merged with Harvester Corporation becoming General Motors Corporation
