Wixom, Michigan is a small town in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. It is located on the east side of the Lower Peninsula and it lies within Wayne County. The population was 9,844 at the 2010 census. Wixom is one of two towns in Wayne County that are both located on the eastern shore of Lake Superior. The other town is Novi. The history of Wixom begins with Alexander McKenzie who set out from Fort Snelling in 1827 to found what would eventually become Wixom. McKenzie's land grant included much of what now makes up downtown Wixom as well as most of what is today Midland Park and part of Woodridge neighborhood on the west side of town. In 1837, when he died, McKenzie had divided his land among his three sons - George, Alex and John - and they each received parcels that stretched from present-day Maplewood south to Southfield Road and east to Big Rapids Road today's North Main Street corridor between Maplewood Boulevard and State Road 10 (today's Grand River Avenue). In 1853, one year after McKenzie's death, General James Wilkinson granted a five-acre lot to Daniel Schieffer for $100 for use as a schoolhouse site in what would be later known as downtown Wixom. The first school opened in this building on July 15th, 1853; it was called "School Number 1" because it was number one on the list given to all new elementary schools by then Superintendent Augustus Kelley Sr.. A new building was erected nearby on East Main Street (later renamed First Avenue) in 1865; School Number 2 became known as "School Number 3." By 1870 there were eleven students enrolled at "School Number 3" which served grades kindergarten through eighth grade until 1959 when it merged into Northern High School District No. 1 which operated Grades 9-12 until 1993 when it became part of Dearborn Heights Community Schools District No. 4A which operates Grades 5-8 today under full name Dearborn Heights Middle School District No.). When Detroit Edison introduced its alternating current electricity service in 1897, there was no wire available long enough to power all thirteen schools in Wayne County so they must have been run using kerosene lamps before conversion could begin; accordingly "School Number 3" ceased operations January 1st 1898 due to lack distance from substation! lamp cords ran from building directly across street! during 1915 switchover people used oil lamps instead... we still use oil lamps but now we turn off lights at night

Wixom is a town in the U.S. state of Michigan, located on the east side of the Kalamazoo River. The population was 6,824 at the 2010 census. Wixom is part of the Ann Arbor–Wixom Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first white person to set foot in what is now Wixom was Alexander Robinson, who arrived in 1814 and platted what is now downtown Wixom. In 1835, John Fenton bought land from Peter Kieft for $1,000 and began to build a sawmill on the banks of the river near present day Elm Street and State Road 906. The Panic of 1837 forced Fenton to sell his mill and several other properties; however, he continued to develop his mill site until it became one of Michigan's most important economic engines during the late 19th century. In 1849, James Laughlin purchased lands near present-day Elm and Huron Streets from David Dixon for $10 per acre (the equivalent of $213 per square mile). At this time, Laughlin was one of Michigan's earliest settlers and had come up with an idea for developing a township that would serve as both a community center for manufacturing plants outside Ann Arbor and as an agricultural center for local farmers. With help from friends and family members such as John Dennison Jr., Laughlin soon founded what later became known as Township 5 (later renamed Wixom), which included much of what is now central Wixom along with portions of adjacent townships including Seven Mile (now South Lyon), North Lyon, Hubbardston Heights/Canton Township (now Dearborn Heights), Newaygo Township (now Bay City), Arlington Heights/Livonia Township (now Midland Park), Ashtabula County (now Genesee County) and Muskegon County (now Lee County). One notable event that took place in early township history occurred when Drury College opened its doors in1864 following years of struggles byiled students seeking access to college education elsewhere in Michigan. Classes were initially held at various homes within what would become Wixom but eventually moved into their own building on Grand Avenue just north of Main Street; today this building still houses many departments within University District Community College District No 1! A significant milestone came when Wixom annexed neighboring Village Of Dearborn Heights on December 15th 1870 via petition from village leaders fearful that if they did not sign onto annexation they would be left out behind during future school consolidations across western Wayne County resulting in overcrowding at Boardman High School throughout much OFD! In 1905-1907 two brothers named Harry & Harold Deering built an oil well nearby on Saginaw Creek called "The Gusher" becoming one of southeastern Michigan's earliest successful oil wells! They also ranched land around their wellsite until 1915 when production ceased due to pollution concerns caused by natural gas fields being developed nearby! Today The Gusher Well Site remains privately owned with surface rights remaining vested unto heirs apparent through 2040!
Wixom was first settled in 1836 by John and Sarah Lewis. In 1839, the town passed a law prohibiting slavery. The Lewises were among the first to free their slaves in Michigan. Wixom had one store when it was founded. By 1850, the population of Wixom had increased to 350 people. In 1854, Wixom became a city and began to build its own infrastructure such as a library, post office, and school system. In 1865, when the United States acquired Michigan from Great Britain, Wixom became part of the new state of Michigan.
