Wixom was a small town in the U.S. state of Michigan, located on the east shore of Lake Erie. The population was 2,844 at the 2010 census. Wixom is now an unincorporated community in Muskegon County, Michigan. The first settler in what is now Wixom Township was Nicholas Weems in 1836. By 1838, there were nine families living in six homes and four stores on the west side of village square. A post office called Wixom was established in 1842, and remained open until it closed in 1907. In 1854, Nathan Sennett built a gristmill on the south side of village square which became known as Sennett's Mill. In 1863, Amos Whitney purchased land comprising present-day north part of Wixom Township from John Ransom for $1,000 cash and two oxen to build a sawmill on Whitefish Creek Run (later renamed Eads Creek). The mill failed within one year and Whitney sold his interest to his brother-in-law James Gagin for $2,500 cash and two oxen; the mill became known as Gagin & Whitney mills. In 1865–1866, Isaac Meeker operated a flour mill near what is now North High School with success until financial troubles caused him to close it down; he then donated most of his equipment to Gagin & Whitney mills where it continued operations until 1893 when it burned down due to overloading.
