Wixom is a town in Macomb County, Michigan, United States. The population was 7,851 at the 2010 census. The name "Wixom" is an anglicized form of "Wexford". Wixom was founded in 1853 by James K. Wixon and others as a small farming community on the banks of the River Rouge. It became a city in 1959. The first settler in what is now Wixom was James K. Wixon, who arrived with his family from Ireland in 1853. He set up a farm on the north side of the Rouge where he lived until his death in 1865. His wife and children followed him to America and started to grow crops near present-day Lansingburgh Road and State Street (now M-226). In 1872, they moved their farm to what is now south central Wixom on land donated by John Ladds, one of local merchants who had come overland from Canada that year with his brother Daniel Ladds for whom Lansingburgh Road was named. They built a log cabin there which served as their home until 1895 when they replaced it with a two-story frame house which still stands today (renowned architecturally designed house built c 1860)). In 1909, Mayor John Jahnemann proposed that all but 1/3 of the town be annexed into nearby Detroit so that it could become more workable after years of being essentially rural. This proposal met opposition because many people felt that they would lose their homes and businesses if they were annexed into Detroit; however, after much discussion and hearings within the town government, it was decided that annexation would not happen and Wixom would remain an independent city under its own governance structure going forward. The first move towards developing downtown occurred during World War II when part of Dearborn Heights began becoming available for housing development due to its strategic location betweenGrand Rapids and Detroit along I-696 - making it an ideal place for military families stationed in those cities while also providing access to jobs in both Dearborn Heights and Detroit proper during wartime shortages elsewhere around these same areas (). However, this idea quickly failed due to lack of funding - primarily because most residents opposed any kind ofgentrification or displacement within their own hometown - although some businesses did relocate away from downtown due to high competition from neighboring townships such as Oakland Park or Hamtramck Township which enjoyed similar unemployment rates during war times but were able to offer stronger economic opportunities thanks to advances in technology like radio broadcasting which allowed businesses throughout those areas easy access to marketshare outside metropolitanDetroit). After much deliberation among mayors throughout Michigan before finally approving its implementation following public outcry resulting from riots ensuing soon thereafter at several other major urban center redevelopment projects across Greater Detroit including Oneida Quarry Park near Royal Oak Township having similar demolitions/reconstructions taking place therein amidst community protestations regarding gentrification wrought havocamongst traditional rural communities experiencing modest declinesin employment Opportunities & school District enrollment) ,WIXOM'S DAVE BING CONSTRUCTION PROJECT FINALLY PASSES AFTER LONG HISTORY OF RESISTANCE

Wixom was founded on November 1, 1872 by George Sibley and his wife Lillie Cushing Hurd Sibley as a railroad town called "Wixom" after Webster Township, New York. The first post office in Wixom was opened on February 24, 1873. The present City of Wixom was organized on January 15, 1907 when it became an independent city from Muskegon Heights and other townships in Oakland County. At its incorporation, Wixom had a total population of 705 people and consisted of just over half a mile square downtown area with only a few small businesses surrounding it. Today's skyline can be seen for miles around thanks to growth in the auto industry which has led to new development along I-94 corridor east to west and north to south within walking distance of all major shopping destinations including downtown WixOMansville Commons mall (home to Sears) as well as several large box stores such as Target and JCPenney that have since closed or been relocated elsewhere within the past decade or so due to suburban competition or better offers from Motley Fool Enterprises Incorporated who acquired them at auction
Wixom is a city in the US state of Michigan. The population was 10,527 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat and largest city of Muskegon County. The first white people in what is now Muskegon County were brought over by Jesuit missionaries in the mid-19th century, and founded a small community called Wixom on August 20, 1847. In 1852, they moved their settlement to what is now downtown Wixom after being given permission from then-Governor John Beall to do so. The town was named for General Major James Krantz Wixom who had died in action during the Mexican–American War; he had been honorably discharged from service as a lieutenant colonel and Colored Infantry officer at Buena Vista Springs near Flint, Michigan. In 1865, when Michigan became a state, Wixom became its first capital; it remained that way until 1971 when Lansing took over as the new capital of Michigan. In 1978, however, because of growing population density in Lansing and other cities within the newly formed Kalamazoo Metropolitan Area (KMA), Wixom regained its original capital status within Muskegon County under an act of the Michigan Legislature which amended local laws pertaining to capitals effective July 1st of that year. Wixom has experienced several waves of growth throughout its history: during World War II it grew rapidly due to munitions production; more recently it has become known for its Manufacturing & Technology sector due to its many businesses located there such as Sherwin Williams Company and others.
