To commemorate this merger, Chrysler erected an aluminum dome over their main headquarters building at 1 New Hope Avenue in Rochester Hills on November 5th, 1951. The growth of Ford Motor Company adjacent to Chryslers factory caused demand for space inside Chryslers factories to dwindle beginning around 1961 or so when Ford began producing more cars outside their plant than inside their plant which caused problems because they could not keep up with demand from both companies who were trying to expand into new markets while also keeping up with technological advancements such as fiberglass bodies becoming prevalent during this time period

The new mayor at that time announced that he would convert Cobo Center into a performing arts center with a theater, art galleries, restaurant/bar complexes and housing developments along with an open-air market that will serve as an incubator for small businesses within walking distance of downtown Wixom. This vision became reality after years of fundraising and effort from Mayor Bob Nichols who also developed plans for using Cobo Center's facilities as officespace for small businesses outside of downtown while also creating green space within walking distance so that citizens could access fresh air without having to leave their homes or neighborhoods

Wixom has been a center for Manufacturing since it was founded in 1884 by John Dunkerly and his son George Dunkerly as an industrial town on the banks of the Ottawa River. In 1906, Wixom became a national model city for Municipal assistance programs administered by US Department of Commerce. The city also developed into an agricultural center with landfills used to produce food for local residents and farmers until they were replaced by greenfield production facilities in the late 1970s and 1980s. The first store in Wixom was built on Main Street in 1884 by John Dunkerly and his son George Dunkerly. A post office called "Washtenaw" was established at this location on December 12, 1885, but did not open until February 1, 1886 due to difficulties obtaining funding from the state government. The first real cotton gin in Washtenaw County was built here around 1902 by J.C. Brockman and operated until 1912 when it burned down because of faulty construction In 1906, Wixom became a national model city for Municipal assistance programs administered by US Department of Commerce under President Theodore Roosevelt's New Deal program known as "Municipal Assistance." This program aimed to create economic opportunity for Americans through financial help received from private enterprise so that they could improve their communities through public works projects such as streets and sewers, drainage systems, schools/campsuses/pensions/libraries etcetera During World War II (1939-1945), many Wixom businesses produced military supplies such as gasoline tanks and munitions while others manufactured war materials including aluminum cans or tools used in manufacturing munitions After World War II ended there remained little demand for municipal assistance programs which led to their termination within several years In 1966-1967 there were plans to build a new shopping mall adjacent to downtown called "Empire Center". However this plan never came to fruition before it was bulldozed along with much else during rioting that took place prior to its demolition In 1978-1979 there were plans made to demolish all buildings north of Woodward Avenue between State Street and Ottawa Street however this plan also failed after much public opposition In 1984-1985 City Council decided that if any new development occurred within city limits then money would be set aside specifically for this purpose rather than being taken from general fund status quo
