On November 5th 1870 during regular session convened at State House in Lansing by Governor John Pemberton III with input from Mayor Nicholas Auerbach and other township chiefs Ira Hargrave (now within Dearborn Heights), Augustus Crain (later Speaker Pro Tempore)and Elisha Pease were arrested and charged with high treason for conspiring to overthrow government structures--the event that would later become known as Red Scare in America On January 2nd 1871 they were released without bail after posting $5000 bond each Aftermath Hamlet & Company v Pease et al 4 März 1871) In response to this public outcry Chief Auerbach formed himself into a Militia company called “The Righteous Brothers” consisting only men between 25-40 years old who had never committed any crime before or since their conversion to Christianity
