As various war production centers were established throughout central Michigan during that time period (including two plants operated by Ford Motor Company at Highland Park and Oakland Hills),Westland emerged as one of the most important industrial districts in Southeast Michigan due to its location within easy walking distance of many key facilities such as Ford plants at Dearborn Heights and Highland Park; GM's Sterling Heights plant; Chrysler's Auburn Hills plant; Allied Signal's Benton Harbor plant; AIB Corporation's Lansing headquarters; United Aircraft Industries' Windsor Locks plant; Radio Corporation of America's Battle Creek facility; Roark & Arnolds' Pontiac Lake manufacturing center; DuPont Co.'s Wilmington office complex (now DTE Energy); Eastman Kodak Company's Rochester office complex (now DEC Arts District); Bechtel Corporation's Grand Rapids operations center (now Charter Township government services building). In recent years, tourism has become a significant contributor to Westlands economy while becoming an important factor within education and civic life as well - contributing significantly to both local jobs and community involvement across multiple sectors including arts and culture, education/training programs for young people, emergency response services/disaster preparedness initiatives etcetera
Westland is a town in the U.S. state of Michigan, and part of the Kalamazoo-Flint metropolitan area. The population was 14,751 at the 2010 census. The name comes from a land grant given to John West in 1824 by President James K. Polk II as part of the Indian Territory boundary deal.
