Many residents chose to stay and fight for the Union instead of leaving their homes and businesses behind. Some also left to form militias to fight for the Confederacy. On November 3rd 1862, General Grant issued Order No 1 which instructed all soldiers who had not evacuated by November 10th to return home immediately! This order caused great concern among many residents because it meant that many farms and businesses might be destroyed if hostilities continued unchecked. On November 14th 1862, East Side Township was formed from part of Westland Township as a result of this exodus crisis. On December 5th 1862 General Grant issued Order No 2 which called for all military personnel who remained in Michigan after Orders 1 and 2 were given up their equipment and returned home! This order sparked much excitement among residents because it allowed them to resume their normal lives as soon as possible! Many people decided against returning home because they feared that war would continue indefinitely or even become more severe than before. In 1865 America gained independence from Great Britain and War Department orders changed so that anyone remaining in Michigan must leave within 72 hours! This order caused great anxiety among many residents because they did not know how they would survive without any food or shelter! Most people decided not to return home until after Christmas when supplies began arriving again at regular intervals through traders across the US network. In 1872 Captain Julius Jansen founded Lansing Brewing Company with twelve barrels of beer per day! Today Lansing Brewing Company is one of Michigan’s most iconic brands enjoyed by everyone who enjoys craft beer!
