Westland, Michigan is a town in the U.S. state of Michigan and it lies within the Detroit metropolitan area. The population was 17,976 at the 2010 census, up from 15,712 at the 2000 census. Westland is one of two towns in Wayne County that are not part of Detroit. The other is Muskegon Heights. The first settler in what became Westland was George Washington Black who came to the area in 1837 with his family. George Washington Black's son John Browning started farming there in 1840 and laid out a township named after him in 1845. In 1849, Alfred Sibley bought land east of present-day White Lake and organized what would become Sibley Township on March 12th, 1850 under the name "Westland". At its incorporation as a township, Westland had a total population of 805 people including 5 men and 375 women. In 1871 when Woodward Avenue was added to the town map by then Mayor Hiram Berryhill (the other being Dearborn Heights), most businesses were located along Woodward which led to its current name - “The Town’s Main Street” - although some buildings still bear that original name today such as Village Hall (1914). In 1903 when Washtenaw County was created from Oakland County it included much of what is now East Lansing into its boundaries making it difficult for residents of eastern Upper Peninsula villages like East Lansing (then called "Lansing") and Midtown Detroit to get supplies or services necessary for their everyday lives such as water or schools without leaving their homes; this caused tension between these two communities until 1907 when Washtenaw officials agreed to annex MidtownDetroit so that all residents living near State Capitol could have access to education and goods available only accessible through Walkerville or Auburn Hills if they desired them while downtowners could continue using State Capital facilities without interruption. This annexation also included parts of Southfield both annexed by Washtenaw County from Clinton Township but never incorporated into Westland due to lack of support from either community leadership or political will among those residing thereabouts during this time period Despite this situation – which many felt left many residents behind – over 50 years later during an economic downturn when jobs dried up even within city limits many people decided they had enough with no desire or need for suburban living opportunities outside city limits however much opposition persists amongst some old timers about annexing adjacent rural areas specifically west & north western Wayne County instead according to recent surveys taken

Westland is a small town in the U.S. state of Michigan, located on the eastern edge of the Upper Peninsula. The population was 2,593 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Muskegon Heights–Notre Dame Micropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1837 as a result of fur trading with Inuit and other Native Americans. The first settler in Westland was George Willard, who arrived in 1837 from Vermont. By 1860, there were only 136 residents living in Westland proper; however, it grew rapidly thereafter due to its strategic location at the crossing of two major rivers and its easy access to agricultural land around Mount Pleasant and White Cloud Lake. In 1865, Westland became one of several townships within what would becomeMuskegon Heights Township when that township was created from parts of four other townships: North Muskegon Township (now South Muskegon Township), Oakland Township (now East Oakland Township), Porter Township (now Porter Rapids), and Washtenaw County had been formed from portions of Huron County on January 1, 1835 under Act No. 24 of 1834. The growth of trade with Great Lakes ports led to increased production and demand for goods coming out of Michigan and Wisconsin during the 1840s and 1850s; this led to an increase in manufacturing jobs throughout Southeast Michigan as well as western Ontario and Northwestern Quebec City during this time period. Because these factories were located close to each other, transportation costs were also low which made them attractive locations for businesses or individuals seeking frontier-style work conditions while still being able to enjoy large areas without much traffic congestion or pollution issues like those found in cities such as Detroit or Chicago at that time frame
Westland, Michigan was founded in 1835 by Nicholas Wright and others. The town grew rapidly due to the many new found resources brought over from the Great Lakes region. In 1847, Westland became a municipality. In 1903, it was merged with other towns in the area to form the city of Holland.
