Wayne is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan, with a population of over 100,000. The city is the county seat for Wayne County and was founded in 1836 by settlers from Ohio and Indiana. It has been the capital of Michigan since 1907 and the second-largest city in Michigan after Detroit. The area that now known as Wayne County was first settled by Native Americans, primarily the Potawatomies, around 1800. In 1836, General Anthony Wayne landed at Sault Ste Marie on the Rouge River to take possession of what would become Wayne County after he had won a war against Tecumseh's forces. The area became part of Indiana when that state was formed from parts of Michigan and Ohio in 1837. The first European settler in what would become Wayne County was James Worthy, who arrived near present-day Mount Clemens on the Rouge River in 1838. By 1840, settlers had built cabins along miles of riverside trails which served as water transportation to their new location. In 1840–41, American surveyor Elisha Storrs surveyed land east of Detroit on behalf of John McLoughlin for his new railroad company – McCloughlin donated more than 10 square miles (25 km2) to be developed into what is today called downtown Wayne Township (now part of Dearborn Heights). In 1846–47, an act entitled "An Act To Establish a Town In This Territory" was passed by Congress with help from then-Governor Nicholas Brady and signed into law by President George Washington on March 3rd. The town began to form but no one moved until November 2nd when George Molineux traveled downriver from Battle Creek via Mackinac Island to laid out streets within what are now downtown Dearborn Heights and Midtown Detroit proper before returning home October 26th - this event is widely considered as being "the foundingof downtown." On December 12th 1850 AnthonyWayne married Anna Mowatt at Greenfield Methodist Church located opposite New Canada Hospital where they resided until her death five years later on January 9th 1850 due to complications arising from childbirth; she is buried at Holy Cross Cemetery near Downtown Detroit with her husband beside her mother Anna Warrantedon Brucemore; both were+++. Many other families followed suit soon afterwards including sisters Sarah VanDerveer (1858), Maria Barlowe (1860), Martha Ann Weldon (=Weldon=Ward) (1863), Harriot Nevin (=Nevin=Harrison) (1865), Rachel Westphal (=Westphal=Wright) (1867), Lydia Pinkney (=Pinker=Rossiter) (1868), Esther Coleman (=Coleman=Thompson) (-1900). Eventually 16 blocks or so stretching along Woodward Avenue between State Street NW & Brushy Road were designated as "Downtown", also including present day Midtown/downtownDearborn Heights/Eaton Park while much older neighborhoods such as Eastern Market outside DowntownDetroit remained unpaved or undeveloped although many homes still remain there today! Today Downtown contains most if not all cultural institutions found within Midtown/downtownDearborn Heights - such as Ford Music Theatre Districts cases City Hall building Main Branch Library Theater Districts Banks Tower Financial District Sheraton Center - major retail districts include IMAX theater district centered around Woodward Avenue Andaluz Place Dormitories Koreatown Historic District Bayview Terrace Grosse Pointe Farms Coliseum High School Athletic Complex University Hospitals Campus

Wayne is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan, on the Grand River near its confluence with the Muskegon River. The population was 22,549 at the 2010 census, making it the third-largest city in Michigan and one of its ten metropolitan areas. Wayne is also one of two cities in Wayne County (the other being Detroit). It is part of the Detroit–Windsor–Livonia Combined Statistical Area. The name "Wayne" originates from a Shawnee word meaning " strongly fortified place." The first settler in what became Wayne County was Nicholas Ducharme, who arrived in 1795 and named his land after Genghis Khan's grandson, Nawabjeez Shah d'Urzaigt (1762-1827), who had purchased land from James Forde. In 1812, Washington Irving settled in what is now downtown Wayne and named it for General George Washington (1732-1809). In 1825, John Noble Clark founded what would become Dearborn Township; he called it "Nappanee", which means current day Dearborn Heights. In 1837, John Fenton bought 1/2 mile (1 km) of Lake Erie shoreline at present-day Mount Pleasant from Simon Pillsbury to create a new town called Nappanee on this beachfront site; he named it for himself because he could not find any other local names that applied to both sites – only "Nappanee" worked well as an alternate name for both locations. In 1839, another pioneer by the name of Elisha Pearce established a farmstead at present day Mt Pleasant Landing on the east bank of Muskegon Bay between Brush Creek and Big Rapids; he renamed it Napanee after his home town of Napanee on Ontario Provincial Road 9 north about 12 miles south of Toronto along Georgian Bay – thus giving rise to communities located within today's Holland Township on that side of Muskegon Bay and as far inland as Cadillac as well as present day Harper Woods onmuskogonBayou located southeast cornerofGrand Rapids map
