Warren, Michigan is home to the largest collection of shooting target holders in the United States. The Warren Shooting Target Holder Museum has been in operation since 1978 and features more than 350 pieces of vintage target holders from around the world. The museum's collection dates back to 1892 when a man named Horace Lunsford bought a small piece of land in what is now Warren Township near Michilimackinac River. He erected a large adobe meetinghouse on his property and began renting out space for shoot-outs between townspeople and buffalo. In 1926, Lunsford donated his entire estate to the Warren Township Historical Society for use as a shooting range and museum. One of the earliest rounders in Warren was Hiram Sibley, who came to this area in 1853 with his family after leaving New York City. Sibley built an addition to his house on Roundabout Road that served as a shooting ground for local residents and Indians alike. In 1874, Masons Lodge #2 imported two French targets from Paris and set them up outside Sibley's house so that members could shoot at them while drinking their beer. The targets quickly became popular among locals, who would take turns hitting them with shotguns or rifles. In 1928, Warren became part of Mackinac County and new sheriff George Kapp assigned deputy Roy Fenton to keep track of firing times at the range from his office inside the courthouse. Between 1930-1934, Fenton set up an electric scoreboard above center field at what is now Payne Stadium to measure distance traveled by shooters over time (the first such scoreboard in America). In 1938, Sheriff Kapp donated $10,000 toward construction of a new building for the society which would include access to both indoor ranges and an outdoor game pavilion capable seating up to 300 people. The structure was completed three years later and was known as the "Sheriff's Range". Over time, other departments also utilized it for training purposes; during World War II it served as an airfield artillery range; after the war it continued being used by law enforcement until its closure in 1987 due to vandalism concerns. Warren was one of the first communities in Michigan to adopt target shooting as a sport. In 1871, Warren's sheriff, Augustus A. Noble, organized a country fair to promote target shooting and invited members of the local rifle clubs to compete. The fair also served as an opportunity for residents to learn more about firearms and how they could be used in defense. By 1875, Warren had two rifle clubs and thirty-six targets.
Warren is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 38,823 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Washtenaw County and home to Michigan State University. The settlement of Warren was first established in 1805 as part of the Town of Grand Rapids, which became a county in 1827. The name "Warren" originated from an early settler, James Warren, who named his farm "Warren Township." In 1831, the township was divided into two parts; one part went to Clinton Township while the other part became Warren City (now known as downtown Warren). In 1840, both parts were renamed after General George Washington and President James K. Polk respectively - George Washington's farm now lies within Clinton Township while Polk's Landing resides within Warren City proper. In 1847, a group of settlers led by Solomon Northrup formed what would become Alcoa Company on Post Road just north of present-day downtown Warren. The company built an iron furnace on land that later became Alcoa Park and began producing steel products such as pipeline railing and cast-iron objects for markets in Europe and America (the park remains active today). By 1860, much of what is now downtown Warren had been developed with small homes clustered around three square blocks bounded by Main Street on the south side (then called Dearborn Street), Second Avenue on the east side (then called Franklin Avenue), and Piquette Avenue on the west side (now called Woodward Avenue). However, during this time period several important developments occurred which have had an impact on modern day life in Warren: 1) The opening in 1865 of Detroit's first waterworks which permitted increased production at local mills; 2) The creation by Judge Edwin Mathers Sr., then Mayor of Detroit through 1903,of what would eventually become Michigan State University – one of largest universities ever founded in America; 3) A large influx during World War II – including many displaced Germans – which caused development along Woodward Avenue near Piquette Boulevard to skyrocket; 4) One significant event that occured during this time period was when anti-war activist Dr.. Martin Luther King Jr.'s famous prayer rally at Central High School drew hundreds thousand citizens from throughout metro Detroit – most notably students from nearby Wayne State College who demonstrated against U2's concert at Comerica Park; 5) And finally post-war suburban growth which has continued even beyond recent years despite declines seen elsewhere in metroDetroit due to changing economic conditions

At that time it had a population of 2,500 people and was one of the most important cities in northeastern Michigan because it served as the county seat for Lapeer County until 1906 when Lansing took over that role. In 1936 Warren became home to the second largest Comstock gas-fired power plant east of Detroit after that plant opened at Saginaw Bayou in 1940). In 1941 during World War II Warren served as headquarters for General Motors Co., which was headquartered at Flint while war production took place elsewhere across the country. The Judd Powerplant operated until 1973 when it closed due to low costs compared to other plants being built at that time; however it remains one of the most significant industrial sites in downtownWarren today with an extensive tour/ tourist attraction called "The Gilded Age."
