Warren is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan, located on the eastern border of the Lower Peninsula and the Ann Arbor metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in what would become Warren was Nicholas Fortescue in 1798. By 1831, there were 10 families living in Warren, with a total population of sixty-four people (). In 1836, James Prentice founded a woolen mill here which became one of the largest mills in Michigan. In 1859, Warren was incorporated as a town under territorial charter from Michigan Territory (now Wayne County). The town's first mayor was Wm H. Morton (). In 1898, Warren merged with neighboring village of Holland to form what would become Holland-Warren Township . In 1907, after Census data showed that Warren had reached its peak population and needed more services such as schools andlibrary), township residents voted to create another township – Cadillac Township – nearby for easier transportation within their community and to help integrate into larger urban areas. However this merger did not take place due to lack of support among other township leaders; Cadillac Township continued to exist until its dissolution in 1964 when it too merged with other townships within Grand Rapids–Wolverine MSA

Warren is a town in Escanaba County, Michigan, United States. The population was 1,564 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Grand Rapids–Mio Township Micropolitan Statistical Area. Warren was first settled in 1836 by John Prentice and others from the nearby village of Negaunee. In 1849, Warren was platted as a town by commissioners George Stephenson and James Cranch. The name may be derived from an Englishman's term "warren" meaning a small forest or meadow frequented by game animals. The first post office in Warren opened on December 12, 1848, with Wm Haines serving as the first mail carrier. A store and hotel were built in 1865; the latter was destroyed by fire in 1903. A sawmill operated here until it closed in 1907; later that year, a gasoline station and garage were erected here too. In 1916,Warren became one of nine towns to become part of the Grand Rapids metropolitan area when it was created through consolidation of several smaller communities within its boundaries. In 1957, Warren joined with other municipalities within the metropolitan area to form the city of Grand Rapids which still exists today as its own municipality without any relationship to either Warren or Escanaba County government. Warren has experienced various changes throughout its history including becoming an agricultural center during World War II when many farmers moved into town to work on wartime projects such as creating turbo-diesel engines for American military vehicles; then experiencing rapid growth following World War III due largely to automotive production but also thanks to numerous new housing developments being developed here starting around 1980s which continue up through present day; finally experiencing significant decline after 2000s due primarily to declining economic activity combined with increasing levels of chronic homelessness/drug addiction among its residents overnighting HERE nightly beginning around 2006-2007 especially concurrent with increased violence and crime rates throughout much Greater Lansing etc., resulting (in my opinion) limited resident choice for investment and redevelopment opportunities even thoughEscanaba County remains (to this day) one of Michigan's most economically vibrant areas both politically & socioeconomically speaking despite MICHIGAN'S LARGEST NUMBER OF HUMAN DEVELOPMENTS – INCLUDING SEVERE CRIME RATES – EVER SEEKING REGULATION BY THE STATE GOVERNMENT
Warren is located in the lower Peninsula of Michigan, bordered by Huron County to the north and east, Oakland County to the south, and Grand Traverse County to the west. The town was named after General John Warren who fought in the Revolutionary War. The first post office was established in 1814, and the present one was built in 1898.
