Warren, Michigan is a small town in the Kalamazoo County area of Midwest United States. It is located on the east bank of the Muskegon River and on the west bank of Lake Huron. The population was 7,813 at the 2000 census. The first settlers in Warren were Norwegian immigrants who arrived in 1836. The community name may be derived from an early settler's observation that "Hallowe'en night" (the time of year when Christmas tree ornaments are typically displayed) resembled a holmster (a type of rabbit). In 1853, Warren became one of four towns to form the Municipality of Muskegon Heights. In 1871, it amalgamated with neighboring villages to form Warren Township. In 1898, it became one of nine townships within Wayne County and was renamed Warren after its founder, Ulysses S. Grant Warren. Warren has had a variety of industries over its history: agriculture, manufacturing, service industry, retail trade and real estate development have all played roles in its growth. The former industrial areas now include suburbs such as Northville and Traverse City which have taken up residence near other large metropolitan areas whileohlewood—a suburban shopping mall— remains an important center for local commerce and entertainment though most jobs moved out during recent decades due to technological advancements such as Amazon’s fulfillment centers nearby. On December 12th 1890 residents voted to separate from Washtenaw County and become their own municipality again – this time with a population over 10,000! This marked not only their first success as an independent municipality but also their first victory against annexation by neighboring townships such as Muskegon Heights or Detroit Lakes due to lack thereof votes from residents themselves! Warren’s growth began rapidly after incorporation; by 1910 there were over 20 businesses operating in town’s limits! By 1920 more than 50 businesses had been established and tax collections totaled $2 million!
