Warren is a town in Jackson County, Michigan, United States. The population was 1,843 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Grand Rapids–Milton-West Bloomfield metropolitan area. The first settler in Warren was Nicholas Rasmussen who arrived in 1837. A post office called Warren was established in 1840, and remained in operation until 1865. The first store opened on the corner of Main and Hickory Streets. The first church was built in 1851 by Reverend John Fenton. The McKnight family purchased the land around Warren from George Pemberton for $4,000 in 1871. They laid out a village plan which included a courthouse, schoolhouse, Methodist Church (now known as First Congregational), blacksmith shop, garage and two residences; one for Mr. and Mrs. McKnight and their three children; one for college professor Drury Hargrave from Holland Township; and an inn or hotel for travelers on eastbound Van Buren Street near present day Washtenaw Avenue along with two stores: Grosse Pointe Hardware Store (later Eaton's) on Ottawa Road and Wagon Wheel Inn on Washtenaw Avenue north of Ottawa Road (now part of Hastings Center). In 1898 evidence surfaced that members of the local Democratic Party had colluded to fix election results so that Samuel Mather could be elected Mayor instead of incumbent John Jahnke Sr.. Two years later indictments were filed against 33 people including 11 Democrats including Mather – all but five were acquitted except Mather who served 8 months jail time after his conviction was overturned on appeal before becoming President Ulysses S Grant's Secretary of War under Johnson when he became president following Lincoln's assassination four months later while still secretary of war. In 1903 the residents formed a town board which changed its name to Warren Township when it became an official municipality within Jackson County upon being united with other townships effected by what has come to be known as "the Great Lakes Eastward Bound Shift". "Warren", named after General James Kempton Warren during World War I who helped lead American forces into battle at Belleau Wood near Arrasvilliers Junction - located about 15 miles northwest of downtown Detroit - would become America’s largest steel manufacturing center during World War II thanks to wartime output from USS “Iowa” (LST-815) at Port Huron Naval Shipyard where large parts were made such as turret gunsights needed for night operations against Japanese submarines while battleship USS “Iowa” played starring role off Tokyo Bay."

Warren is a small village in the U.S. state of Michigan, located about 20 miles west of Lansing and 30 miles east of Detroit. The population was 1,853 at the 2010 census. Warren is part of the East Lansing–Lansing Metropolitan Statistical Area. The village was first settled in 1824 by John Atherton and his family as Fort Atherton on a bluff overlooking the Ottawa River. In 1836, Colonel James Wilkinson founded the town of Warren after his surveys showed that there was valuable land available for settlement in what is now southwest Michigan. The name may be derived from "warren" or "warranty," referring toulations (a type of speculative investment) made by Wilkinson with local leaders to secure title to tracts of land which he hoped would one day become townships or villages. In 1868, President Andrew Johnson approved the platted townsite plan developed by George Stephenson and Jno.[1] The new town had two stores, three schools, a hotel and a sawmill before it began to grow rapidly during the late 19th century thanks to its strategic location between Lansing and Detroit – adjacent to major railroad crossings – as well as its proximity to important agricultural areas such as Saginaw Valley and Grand Rapids County. During World War II many residents turned their backs on their country during America's war effort because they believed that Nazi Germany was responsible for Pearl Harbor; however, most later came around when evidence surfaced supporting Japan's involvement in that attack. When it became clear that Japan could not be defeated militarily without losing key assets like territories in Southeast Asia, many residents chose instead to contribute financially toward helping those efforts through Operation Coronet: providing food relief supplies throughout Burma while Japanese forces were still occupying that country; this eventually led to Japanese withdrawal from Burma in 1945).
