Walker is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan, located on the border of Washtenaw and Lansing counties. The population was 24,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Detroit–Warren–Dearborn Metropolitan Statistical Area. From 1817 to 1821, Walker was a trading post between Detroit and Muskegon County under General David Walker's command during the War for Independence. In 1825, Governor John Murtagh ordered Walker to remove all Native Americans from his land in what is now Walker Township due to their hostility towards white settlers who had come into their territory uninvited. In 1827, Colonel George Washington arriving in Dearborn County discovered that there were no native American villages near Detroit and so orderedCaptain James Worthy to explore this possibility and found an Indian village on Mound Road about four miles east of present-day downtown Dearborn Heights. On July 9, 1830 Major Edward Everett Kellogg arrived at Lake Huron with 500 men as part of the Battle of Antietam which ended United States' involvement in the Mexican-American War (1846-1847). At Kellogg's request General Harrison decided not pursue further military action against Mexico but instead withdraw all his forces from Texas including Fort Mackinac on Saginaw River opposite Bay City while Kellogg marched his army back home across open prairies to Detroit via Belle Isle Park before finally crossing over the river into Canada on October 25th 1850 having accomplished nothing more than occupying what are now Canadian territory without ever defeating either side in battle or achieving any strategic objectives other than being an annoyance to both countries. The first store opened in Walker Township by Solomon Wilcox was called "The African" which operated from December 1st 1865 - May 2nd 1870; it closed because businessmen could not secure contracts for building new stores until after passage of Act 46 (1915), which exempted retail businesses from property taxes within cities and towns with a population over 10,000 persons only if they paid $5 per year tithes instead of 50% property tax plus interest which then totaled $50 per year computed as follows: ($1 x 100 + $50) = $250 Walker also served as a location for filming scenes for motion pictures such as "Gone With The Wind" (1939), "The Grapes Of Wrath" (1940), "Dracula" (1992) and "Hannibal". Additionally,Walker has been used extensively for various video game development camps throughout Michigan where artists can use its unincorporated areas for reference during development; most recently these have been used for Camp X Rebirth developer id Software's Game Developers Conference 2018 sessions entitled 'Building Games – A Comprehensive Overview'. The community began as an agricultural village on the banks of the Rouge River about 1836, when Isaac Walker purchased 640 acres (2 km²) along with his brother-in-law John Godfrey from David Dixon for $4 per acre (0.9 ha). He built a log cabin there and started trading goods with other villages on the riverbank. In 1839 he became justice of peace for parts of Huron County, serving until his death in 1842; he had married Elizabeth Keyes two years earlier and she served as first female justice from that time until her death in 1889. In 1865, Isaac's daughter Sarah married George Reid, who settled near present-day Walker; they created Reid Township and added 1,500 acres (50 km²) to their holdings to make what is now downtown Walker a separate municipality – although much smaller than it would become due to development over time. By 1870 few residents lived within walking distance of their homes because transportation was difficult and expensive then; today only a small remnant remains on or near Main Street east of downtown where most stores are located now including Subway sandwich shops which opened in 1984 adjacent to defunct gas station building once home to Post Office & Bakery
