Walker, Michigan is a small town located in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The population was 1,927 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Grand Rapids–Wyoming, MI metropolitan area. Walker was founded in 1836 by Methodist missionaries and has been a center for Baptist and Lutheran worship since then. The community lies on the banks of the Eel River, about 12 miles (19 km) east of Lansing, the state capital. The town began as a outpost on an old Indian trading post known as "Creek Town." A bridge over the Eel River was built in 1837 to connect Walker with Lansing. In 1839, residents voted to become a town. They named their first Mayor John Giannini after John Giannini, an Italian immigrant who had helped build two bridges in nearby Ionia County. Walker's economy is based on agriculture and local manufacturing production such as clothing and paper products. The local school system provides education for children from pre-kindergarten through high school graduation. There are also several churches in Walker which offer religious services throughout the day and evening hours; these include First Baptist Church which was founded in 1907; Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church; Methodist Episcopal Church; Presbyterian Church (USA); United Methodist Churches; Claxton-Galloway Mills Village Association Incorporated v/s Claxton-Galloway Mills Township Incorporated et al.; First Congregationalist church established 1902 ; Second Congregationalist church established 1909 ; Lakeside Community Park opened 1974 ; and Holy Cross Parish Catholic church established 1954 . Walker has one public library which serves all residents except those living within Claxton-Galloway Mills Township which have access to one branch of that library only . The township has its own roads and infrastructure but does not have any fulltime municipal employees or taxing authority like most municipalities do in Michigan
There is no one answer to the question of how and when guns became swivel-equipped. By 1830, shotguns had also become standard issue on many armies and mounted rifles were becoming less common. Asymmetric warfare began emerging as a key factor in this change and it was not long before modern day guns cameequipped with rotatable barrels and ammo magazines as well. At this point, there may have been a delay of several decades before all weapons became Swivel-Equipped effective at engaging targets out beyond approximately 30 degrees from horizontal for sustained firefights.

The racial makeup of the town was 95% White; 2% African American; 0% Native American; and 1% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1%of the population
Walker was a small village in the far east end of Michigan, located on the shores of Lake Superior. However, Walker's prosperity came to an end after the Panic of 1857 caused a severe economic recession that left many residents struggling.
