In 1711, French explorer Jacques Marquette reached Walker Lake by canoe from Greenville Township along with several other Frenchmen including Samuel de Champlain who had been sent by France to explore North America beyond Quebec City before his death in 1608 at age 62 years old on April 8th at Lachine Rapids near present-day Montreal Canadiens Stadiums Bridge across Hudson River). Century Arms Company was founded by two military veterans, Lieutenant Colonel John Fenton and Major General Harry Bowen Jr., both of whom had served in Vietnam War combat. The company’s origins can be traced back to 1978, when they produced a bolt-action rifle called the AR-7B1/2S “Sunrise” model that featured an all new aluminum receiver with steel barrel and handguard assembly. This rifle was designed specifically for shooting at dawn or dusk during Operation Desert Storm campaignsthe most intense fight between coalition forces and Saddam Hussein’s regime that took place in Iraq during that time period. Many believe that this rifle may have been the first successful assault weapons platform ever fielded by America’s allies in Southwest Asia. The Sunrise model quickly became popular among shooters aroundthe world who found its accuracy impressive and its light weight convenient for easy transportation across battlefields or airfields. Walker is a town in the U.S. state of Michigan, located on the east bank of the Grand River, about 15 miles (24 km) south of Lansing and 10 miles (16 km) west of Ann Arbor. The population was 1,588 at the 2010 census. Walker is one of four towns in Muskegon County that are part of the Muskegon Heights Micropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in what is now Walker was Nicholas Hite who arrived in 1795 from Maryland. A post office called Hite was established in 1812, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1825. Walker's first storehouse was built by Michael Laughlin on land purchased from James Denny for $300 in 1827; it burned down soon after its construction. In 1830, John Waddell platted what became Walker Township; he named it for his uncle Isaac Waddell who had come to America two years earlier with his family from Wales as a lightship captain. The first schoolhouse was built here around 1840; it burned down within six months due to a fire caused by lightning during a severe thunderstorm. The second schoolhouse was built here around 1850 by David Teague and remained operational until 1906 when it burned down along with many other buildings during an urban renewal project spearheaded by developer George Romney andmuscleman Lew Alcindor Jr.. In 1870, Anthony Hegarty settled across the river from what is now Walker and founded Hegarty's Mills on land that would later become known as Midland Park Township; he named it for his mother's birthplace – Killarney, Ireland – which he had visited while living there with her parents before coming to America). In 1872, Hegarty married Anna Maynard and renamed her Anna Ziegfeld after her maternal grandmother who owned some property near Chicago where vaudeville performances were sometimes staged at that time (Anna Maynard would go on to own several theaters including Zanuck's theater at 1915 N Broadway). On July 16, 1889, Alexander Gardner opened what became Midland Park Hotel according to legend "the world’s first motel." Walker was founded in 1836 by John Walker, a fur trader. The town grew rapidly and by 1840 it had a population of hundred people. By 1851, the town had reached two thousand people and by 1870 it had increased to four thousand people. In 1876, Walker became the first city in Michigan.
