In 1892, a group of Troy men interested in improving their safety formed the Troy Rifle and Pistol Club. The club developed a flashlight to help members improve their shooting skills. In 1896, the club organized a light show at the town square to celebrate its first anniversary. The show featured displays of pistols and rifles from around the area as well as homemade fireworks display.
Troy, Michigan is a small town located in the Mackinac county of Michigan. The population was 5,711 at the 2010 census. The town was first settled in 1836 by couples from Canadian Township and then by families from what is now Ottawa County. Troy's original two churches were erected on opposite banks of the River Raisin in 1839. The present day church, built in 1907, stands on the site of one of those earlier churches. In 1852, local farmers started raising corn for feed for their animals and soon enough there were large fields of corn and other crops grown here. By 1860, Troy had a blacksmith shop and several stores including an insurance agent. In 1865 the construction of a Turnpike facilitated growth as people traveled to different parts of the country for trade goods and services. In 1868, when Lansing became capital of Michigan, Troy became its first incorporated town with a population over 1 thousand residents. On December 3rd 1870, voters approved resolutions creating township status with a population under five hundred residents On January 1st 1871 township status was granted to Troy with 12 voting members including four women – Flora Page (later Mrs. George Washington Jepsen), Emma Swartzendruber (later Mrs., Mayor Mary Wickersham), Carrie Nesselrode ( later Mrs John Nesselrode) – all three women serving as trustees until their deaths in 1902 each The first election held under township form was on February 2nd 1871 with 15 citizens registered to vote having previously voted in village form . Four new trustees were elected that year: Nesselrode’s wife Carrie; Drury’s son Harry; born 1863 Jameson; all men who had also been electors in village form but continued to serve as trustees until their death or resignation within six months . Finally on November 6th 1872 incorporation into Mackinac County took place with 11 voting members including seven women- Eliza Jane Addison (née Burt); Dora Harper; Bertha Baird; Anna Wetzel ; elevation 7 feet 4 inches above mean sea level- Alice Fenton (née Rankin); Cora Klinefsky; Johanna Kellerhoffer A post office operated at Troy from1872-1966 which served rural areas south of Detroit

Troy, Michigan is a small city in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, United States. The population was 5,898 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat for Macomb County. Troy was founded by settlers in 1836 and became a town in 1855. In 1865, it became a village and in 1870 it became a city. It is the only municipality in Macomb County that has been continuously inhabited since 1836. Troy's history begins with two small settlements: one by traders from Sweden who came to the area during Ignatius Donnelly's Expedition of 1837-38, and another by Norwegian immigrants who landed on Hiawatha Bay near present-day Troy on August 15,1839 seeking passage to Canada via Detroit. The first settler had named his new land "Troy." The second group arrived too late for their original plot but did establish what would become known as Perry Township which extended into present-day Troy proper on November 6, 1840. The city of Troy was chartered on December 1, 1865 by Mayor George Leland and City Councilman David Sibley from land acquired from Perry Township following an act of Congress approved December 8th that year authorizingthe organization of townships within Macomb County subject to approval by the county board of supervisors. At its founding, Troy had a population of just over 100 people living in 12 homes clustered around Main Street between Market Square and Park Avenue (now Elmwood Avenue). A few years later increased populations caused businesses on Main Street to relocate or be closed due to competition from larger stores located elsewhere within town limits such as those along Woodward Avenue or across Harbinger Lake from where residents could access shopping opportunities at excellent prices while still being close enough to their homes for daily activities including farm work and visits with family members outside town limits During this early period when downtown Troy consisted primarily of modest brick buildings built circa 1860s through 1870s housed various government agencies including the court house now occupied by Washtenaw County District Court; School District No 1 which functioned as both an elementary school (grades K-12) until 1893 when grades 7-12 were moved to Huron Heights; lumberyards operated by local farmers supplying boards for churches and other public building projects throughout central & eastern Michigan; mail service arrive via stagecoach route originating at Greenville then continuing northwest across Mackinac Bridge before terminating at Lansing about 50 miles away After Reconstruction following Civil War there were increasing demands for education services not only withinMacomb County but also beyond as federal funds began flowing into newly formed states providing more educational opportunities than ever before available statewide especially among rural areas previously devoid thereof In 1898 when voters passed a $6 per capita tax increase levied against all taxpayers in order provide needed revenue for public schoolsincluding primary/junior high schoolswhich opened four years earlier than planned due largely to financial support given through appropriations made subsequentyearly under President Grover Cleveland following recommendation madeby state Superintendent Amos Kendall Primary/junior high schools operating today were established thanks mostly to donation or bequest totaling approximately $50 million received since 1915 including nearly $30 million received since 1978 through gifts alone among others . Much like much else about our community’s rich history it startedsmallerandfurtheralongthewayuntilitreachedtoday’s stature
The first settlers in Troy, Michigan were the Holland family. They arrived in 1829 and started a small community called Swenzer's Landing. The Holland family continued to live in Troy until 1855 when they moved to Redford, Michigan. In 1863, the Swenzer family also moved to Redford and started the town of Troy. The town was originally named after John Swenzer who donated land to the town. In 1872, the name of the town was changed to Troy after General Prentiss’s Raid on Missouri which destroyed many towns in that area.
