Many other notable individuals also lived or worked in downtown Troy during this time: such as banker Andrew Mellon and politician John Ladd.* Despite its drawbacks (i.e., low population density), Downtown Troy still retains some of its old-school charm today despite having had few updates since it was last designated as a historic district back in 1978† (*Note: This designation did not include any of downtown's current blocks)‡† Today, Downtown Troy still features many of those same resources that made it so popular back when it first started developing*: There are several shopping streets leading off of Main Street* (including State Street), which continues to be an important commercial artery for local businesses*; there are plenty of restaurants and cafes(*note: Only full-service restaurants are listed here*, although there are occasional openings up for grabs); there are also plenty of galleries** (*note: Most galleries open daily from 10am-6pm***); and finally*, there is also an impressive amount of historical significance within walking distance** (*see map below***).
