Trenton was founded on July 1, 1814, by Captain John Cranch and his brothers-in-law Major General James Wilkinson and Colonel George Armstrong Kentucky Volunteers during the War of 1812. The area that would become Trenton was first inhabited by Algonquian Native Americans who hunted game in what is now downtown Trenton. Captain John Cranch arrived in 1797 and named this area after himself, though he never set foot there. In 1814, when American forces invaded Canada as part of the War of 1812, Captain Cranch came to America with his brother-in-law Major General James Wilkinson and Lieutenant Colonel George Armstrong Kentucky Volunteers to help lead an assault on Fort Erie (now Buffalo). The Battle of Queen's Park took place on July 1st involving over 200 British soldiers supported by artillery from Niagara Falls; however,CaptainCranch's force only managed to capture a few buildings before being driven back by heavy losses from American regulars under General Winfield Scott Howe. Aftermaths included some 400 British casualties including many officers and gentlemen killed or captured while fleeing across Lake Ontario into America proper;[1] this event helped spur development around Queen's Park which became known as "TheBattleFieldofQueen'sPark." In 1818 Lt Col Armstrong left for California with his family but left behind a small garrison here in order to build a road through present day Detroit so wagon traffic could move more easily between Ohio and Michigan Territory.[2][3] This road led eventually to Detroit where Captains Cranch and Wilkinson met up with Santa Anna’s army invading Mexico City Mexican forces had been sent in support of Maximiliano de Montemayor y Costilla who had taken office as President of Mexico following Benito Juárez’s resignation effective December 15th 1800;[4] upon learning about this development Commodore Perry dispatched USS Constitution under Commander William Davenport[5] to attack Montemayor’s army at Texcoco beach near Monterrey – duelling reports indicated Commodore Perry’s flagship were much nearer shore than those ashore allowing for better damage control should any conflict arise thereby sparing valuable resources available elsewhere should war break out;[6][7][8][9] although successful HMS Guerriero sank two vessels off Texcoco beach Commodore Perry then sailed northwards towards Tampico where he disembarked his men after defeating Montemayor’s force under José Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna thus achieving international notoriety[10][11],[12]: although Santa Anna subsequently lost power within Mexico he retained most if not all aspects of Mexican Federalismo leading up until US annexation in 1912 whereby Tampico became part of US territory along side Quinnipiac Island becoming part Of East Lansing

Trenton is a small, rural town in the heart of Michigan's Upper Peninsula. It has been called the "oldest agricultural community on the Upper Peninsula" and has long been home to farmers, millers, and other tradesmen. The town was founded in 1837 by George Hahn and his wife Charlotte. Trenton became an incorporated city in 1903. In 1967, it merged with neighboring Midland to form the present-day city of Midland. The history of Trenton begins with George Hahn, who arrived in what is now Trenton from Ohio about 1837. He began farming land around what is now downtown and built a house near where he lived until his death in 1865. His wife, Charlotte, also came from Ohio and started a farm hereabouts around 1840. They had five children: Abraham (1838-1901), John (1840-1927), Michael (1843-1920), Edwin (1847-1925), and Harrietta Biddle (1851-1945). The first settler in this area was Nicholas Rankin who arrived about 1795. He built a cabin on the north side of Main Street east of what is now Market Square. TheRankins are believed to have been the first white people to reside permanently in this area; they may have come as part of General Washington's force that invaded Canada during the War for Independence in 1775. By 1837 there were several families living hereabouts including those of Hahn & Kappeler along with William Shearer & family which occupied sites along Broadway between Depot Road northward towards downtown and current day Park Avenue W., across from today's Community Building/Parkside Center complex on Third Street W.. North end of Broadway at First Avenue N., then 2 blocks east along First Avenue Nueces Road NW., then 1 block south on Second Avenue NE before joining US Highway 94W at milepost #1 just past today's intersection with Ionia Road NW., thence following US Highway 94W northerly 1/2 mile to its present terminus at Dearborn Street EAST OF MIDLAND CITY Limits - so originally grid reference number 3E047B
