Trenton is a small town in the Kalamazoo Valley region of Michigan. The population was 3,362 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Grand Rapids–Kalamazoo–Port Huron metropolitan area. Trenton was founded in 1824 by immigrants from Germany and Italy. The town was named for John Trent, a United States Senator from Ohio who served from 1827 to 1830 and again from 1835 to 1840. The first settler in Trenton was Johannes Koehler, who arrived in 1824. He built a log cabin on the east side of Trenton Creek. In 1830, Koehler married Susannah Copley, daughter of Nathaniel Copley of Rochester, New York. They raised six children: four daughters and two sons. In 1836, German-born Nicholas Jausen moved to Trenton from Saginaw County, Michigan with his family and began trading goods along the creek for Jacob Weiser and other farmers near what is now Muskegon Heights neighborhood on Canfield Road south of I-94. By 1840, Jausen had acquired 4 acres (1 km2) on what is now Main Street between Woodward Avenue and I-94 where he erected a frame house which functioned as his store until 1863 when he sold it to Fayette Township trustee Julius Weisee for $5 per year or $220 total over 10 years . In 1865 Jausen died leaving an estate worth about $60 000 today according to federal tax records . For many years after that date there were no commercial activities in or around Trenton apart from occasional agricultural production by Mr Weisee’s descendants . However , economic development eventually followed as local traders became better connected with larger markets in Detroit through mail order catalogues spawned by entrepreneurs such as Augustus Kelley In 1899 James Ewing opened his East Lansing grocery store at 406 W State St which soon became one of the most successful grocery stores in Michigan during that time period serving customers throughout downtown Lansing including parts of Dearborn Heights excepting only its eastern border where Highland Park stood

In 1907, when Lansing was founded as a result of consolidation of several small towns east of Lansing by state Legislature under then Governor George Wickersham, Trenton quickly became part of Lansing proper; it annexed most of Waterford Township between 1908 and 1909 while still maintaining its own government structure including an elected mayor and council members.. In 1916–1917 there was a large battle between US Marines attached to US First Corps (later Marine Corps) during World War I against German forces occupying what is now downtown Trenton; although ultimately inconclusive due to lack firepower at that time,, The event helped spur patriotism among many local residents who saw military service as a way to serve their community better than just taking care of themselves financially.. During World War II much activity occurred within what is now downtown including munitions production at nearby Mather Paper Company before becoming home to thousands upon thousands displaced persons from Hiroshima & Nagasaki following those bombings; however despite efforts by several organizations such as Operation Picket Line (a citizens' campaign protesting internment camps), few people were ever arrested or prosecuted for their role in these events.; After World War II ended many businesses closed down but new ones slowly started cropping up throughout Downtown during the 1950s through 1970s as various industries left town looking for more sustained economic growth elsewhere;; In recent decades Downtown has been experiencing significant gentrification with wealthier residents moving into buildings around First National Bank Tower;; As mentioned earlier Downtown contains some high-end shops/restaurants along with numerous low-income housing units which continue being used by locals day-to-day.; One thing that has not changed since Prohibition era though: Illegal drinking continues unabated
