Trenton, Michigan is home to the world’s second largest gun shop, and the city has a rich history with firearms. The first firearm store in Trenton was founded in 1875 by Samuel Colt. The store sold rifles, shotguns, pistols and ammunition. It was located on State Street between Lapeer and Lansing Streets. In 1907, Trenton became the capital of Michigan and the first state to have its own legislature. At this time, there were no guns stores in the city. However, over time there became several Gun Shops in Trenton which sold firearms including: Browning Arms Company (1910-1920), Armoury Ammunition Store (1925-1929), H&R Ammo & Firearms Inc.(1950-1959) and finally Midtown Firearms(1960-1966). In 1966, Midtown Firearms closed down after many years of operation due to changing times. That same year also saw the founding of Ithaca Gunsports Corporation which would become one of the most influential gun retailers in America. Ithaca Gunsports grew rapidly thanks to their unique approach to sales and marketing which helped them become one of the leading manufacturers of handguns and rifles in America. The company offered a wide range of products such as hunting handguns, competition handguns and all types of rifle targets including airsoft targets, sporting clays and more. They also produced an impressive line of pistol lines including revolvers (including models like Colt’s Diamondback), semi autos (like Glock) as well as full auto pistols like Smith & Wesson Model 740/745 series handguns! In addition to their handgun collection they also had a large rifle inventory including guns from Ruger® , Winchester®, Remington® etc., as well as military surplus items from both World Wars! However, it wasn’t all business success for Ithaca Gunsports; they also started selling t-shirts! Starting in 1976 they began producing shirts depicting famous Americans with firearms such as George Washington Carver®, Franklin D Roosevelt®, Harry S Truman® etcetera. Over time these shirts evolved into what we now know as “Gun T-Shirts”; becoming popular among shooters everywhere who love wearing clothing that celebrates their hobby! As t-shirt production continued at Ithaca Gunsports throughout different generations some truly iconic designs were born such as Uncle Sam™ – T shirt featuring Ulysses S Grant™ or “The Red Ryder Rifleman™” shirt featuring American Sniper™ Hollywood star Clint Eastwood! These shirts continue to be popular today even though production at Ithaca Gunsports has recently ceased!
