From then until the present day, Traverse City has had a rich and colorful gun target history. Here are four examples: 1) In 1827, the first target shots were fired by the military in Traverse City when Captain John Fenton shot an apple off a log to test his new rifle. 2) The first commercial shooting ground was opened in 1915 by Julius Bogen at 7 North Washington Street. It functioned as a firing range and still does today. 3) In 1932, Mayor George Condon leased an old sawmill on the south side of town for use as a gunnery range and artillery practice field. Today it is known as “The Range” and hosts various types of events such as sporting clays and airgun shoots during summer months. 4) One of the most famous trapeze shooters in America, Dick Tracy's Ditto Target, was located here from 1951-1959 at 459 Stephenson Avenue (now MLK Jr Drive).

The first gun target in Traverse City was a 12-gauge shotgun at the old post office. The target was made by Mr. Haney and put up by Mrs. Haney. It was taken down in 1990. In 1923, the city set up a public playing field called Bagley Park which served as a shooting range for several years until 1934 when it closed because of prohibition. In 1938, the trappers’ union set up a small target range on State Street in town square, behind the local grocery store. The range continued to be used until 1951 when it was converted into a school playground after being donated by Mrs. Akeley and moved from its previous location on Third Avenue East to what is now the east side of First Street in town square. In 1952, Traverse City placed an 8-inch elevated steel girder at the northeast corner of Michigan Avenue and State Street between Second and Third Streets as part of its Gunnery Training Center project which became operational on November 15th that year with trap shooting being one of the centerpieces of its programming including demonstrations by Captains John Ransom (1910-1992), Harry Jablonski (1920-2005) and Ed Buhler (1925-2007). On October 25th 1960, Captain Buhler demonstrated how to use an M14 rifle while Trap Shooting Instructor Leonard Kappke assisted him with his Tomahawk II bowhunter rifle during an open air event presented by Mayor Clifford Senter at Bagley Park attended by representatives from various businesses within town limits including Wawa Coffee Shop, Newsom’s Department Store, Body Shop & Barber Shop etc.. August 1st 1966 saw the opening of Traverse City’s first indoor pool when Ulysses “Ulysses” Hazen opened Harpo Pool located on Main Street near West Side Market . That same year also saw the installation of Traverse City’s first police department when Captain James Fenton took over command from Deputy Chief Don Heintzelman effective January 1st1967 following Chief Heintzelman being transferred to become Police Sergeant at Wayne County Jail effective February 15th1966.. On May 9th 1967 Captain Fenton demonstration how to fire an M16 rifle while Trap Shooting Instructor Ray Snively assists him with his Remington Model 700 bowhunter rifle during an open air event presented by Mayor Clifford Senter at Bagley Park attended by representatives from various businesses within town limits including Wawa Coffee Shop etc.. December 10th 1971 saw captain Fenton demonstrate how to use night vision goggles while Trap Shooting Instructor Alain Poulin assists him with his Bushnell spotting scope during an open air event presented by Mayor Clifford Senter at Bagley Park attended by representatives from various businesses within town limits including Wawa Coffee Shop etc.. On September 24th 1984Captain Ron Majewski gave a presentation on safe handling firearms during an open air event sponsored jointly by both villages -Traverse City & Harbor Springs -at Bagley Park addressed primarily to law enforcement officers attending their respective departments who were interested in learning more about safety procedures for dealing with handguns

In 1905, Traverse City was incorporated as a village under the name Northville before changing back to its original name in 1912 following approval by voters when Northville began serving only as an economic development zone for Muskegon County instead of being divided equally betweenMuskegon and Mackinac Counties like other villages within Muskegon County (save Grand Rapids). With time, Northville slowly lost its importance due mainly to suburban growth around it while Traverse City continued to grow more rapidly than any other municipality within Muskegon County until 2000 when all municipalities within Muskegon County were merged into one entity known as "Municipality of Bay Area." Between 2002-2008, travois shuttle buses transported people from Peninsula Hospital located along US 41 near downtown until they could be treated at ambulatory surgery center (ASC)Bayfront Medical Center which opened in 2008 just east of downtown on Water Street next door to Peninsula Hospital
In 1836, the first steamboat reached Traverse City. The boat was called the "Cleveland", and it transported goods between Detroit and Cleveland. In 1849, a railroad was built to bring traffic to Traverse City from Michigan's other lakes. The Traverse City Railroad became operational in 1851. The town of Traverse City developed around the railroad station and business district. By 1870, the population had increased to over 10,000 people. It was not until 1908 that an electric streetcar line began service in Traverse City. This line connected downtown with the outlying areas of the city on Streeterville Avenue. In 1912, Traverse City become a prohibition capital when state law went into effect prohibiting alcohol sales in Michigan. From 1928 through 1935, trawler fishing trips were popular among residents of Traverse City because of their accessibility to local catches during this time period (a time before commercial fishing fleets arrived). The last major development inTraverse City's history occurred in 1974 when the formerReading Terminal closed its doors after serving as a storage facility for area businesses for more than 40 years
