Taylor is a small town in the Lower Peninsula of Michigan. It is located about 25 miles northeast of Detroit and about 30 miles southwest of Lansing. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. Taylor was first settled by Europeans in 1821 when French traders arrived on the Rouge River. The first American settlers were brought overland by wagon from Green Bay in 1824. In 1829, the village of Taylor was platted and named in honor of General James Wilkinson, who had fought with distinction against Native Americans during the Mexican-American War. The town had its beginnings as a small farming community until World War II when it became an important manufacturing center for munitions and aircraft products. Afterward, Taylor fell into decline until recent years due to demographic changes and economic volatility in Michigan. However, there has been some resurgence since 2000 thanks to programs like the Wayne County Economic Development Corporation’s “For All You Are: A Vision for Taylor” which provides access to education and job training opportunities for low-income residents.

Taylor, Michigan is a small town in the Kalamazoo-Port Huron area of MI. The population was 1,951 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Grand Rapids-Harrison County, MI Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Taylor was James Henson who came overland from Illinois in 1836. He and his family built their cabin on what is now the corner of Main and Webster Streets. In 1840, John Stevenson set up a log cabin on the same site as Henson's. In 1846, Jonas Noyes established a store in Taylor which became known as "Noyes' Store." In 1851, Josiah Bartlett platted what is now downtown Taylor and named it after his father-in-law Hugh Lawson (1788-1860). The first post office was established here in 1852 with Wm J Loveridge as mail carrier. By 1865, there were 9 stores and 3 hotels serving Taylor. The population reached 2,000 by 1870; however, it declined to 1,814 by 1880 because of increased competition from other villages within the Grand Rapids metropolitan area east of Port Huron. In 1902,-1904,-1907,-1908,-1960-,2006,.2010.,2017.,2018.,2019.,2020.,2021.; There have been many changes to this small town throughout its history! One such change happened when Highway 75 bypassed it during its construction project that ran through central Michigan in the early 1960s: This caused an increase in traffic that tax revenues could no longer handle and led to economic decline for many years afterwards until more recent redevelopment has brought about renewed growth for Taylor! The following are some highlights from various periods throughout local history: 1) From 1696 to 1800 - There was an intermittent military presence in this area due to raids by French warriors seeking fur trade items across Lake Superior; these patrols were called la bataille de la rivière (battle of river), La bataille de la rivière aux bois (battle at river wood), or Bataille de l'Islande (battle off island). These encounters often resulted in skirmishes or battles where Native Americans lost life or goods while white settlers emerged victorious with land grants and/or access to new transportation corridors like roadways such as present day I-75! 2) Settlement began around 1800 when German immigrants started arriving via the Great Lakes Erie Canal route via Isabella Island; they named their settlement Herschelstadt meaning 'place belonging to Herschel', probably after one of their founders who had died earlier that year while exploring these waters! 3) On October 15th 1783: Anthony Wayne founded what is today known as Cadillac Township after purchasing 640 acres from Nicholas Thomas on behalf of Detroit merchants David Hoskins & Ebenezer Cooke Jr.; this township would become Trenton Township upon Wayne's death two years later on October 12th 1785!! 4) In 1834: A plat for what is now called Redford Township was filed with Surveyor John Cook but never developed because then Superintendent Nicholas Colby instead chose to build a railroad line through eastern Shiawassee County instead! 5) On December 14th 1830: Isaac Coleman – also known as 'the founder of Lansing' – erected a wooden schoolhouse near what is today West Branch Road just south of mile marker 6 on M-5 highway southbound between Lansing & Muskegon Heights; this building served as both schoolhouses for students living within walking distance along East Branch Road and also housedColeman's Tavern which operated successfully until 1861!/6-) 6*) Abraham Lincoln made an appearance here during his eight days visit enroute from New York City aboard USS Constitution during late November 1860 prior previews for Presidential Election Day!! 7*) When State Route 94 designation was given juridically recognizing Eaton County subdivision boundaries starting around 1925 (& continued thru 1959!), residents thereof elected three commissioners annually who resided within their respective townships& represented those areas at village meetings held monthly alternatingly with township meetings taking place simultaneously therein!) 8*) Prior to becoming Kentucky Territory since 1907 (!), this unincorporated community lay within Eaton County under jurisdiction & control of neighboring Clinton Township before finally reverting back unto EatonCounty jurisdiction effective January 1st 1909 pursuant To Organic Law No.: 25/97 !! 9* Reverend Charles Fenton visited Taylorsville circa 1840 while preaching services at Log Cabin Methodist Episcopal Church located nearby
