In Taylor, Michigan, the history of firearms is entrenched in the local culture. This small town has been a stronghold for gun owners and collectibles for over 100 years. The town's history with firearms can be traced back to 1875 when two German immigrants, Wilhelm and Johann Mueller, started selling rifles and pistols in an old log schoolhouse on the edge of town. The guns were quickly becoming popular among the locals, and soon enough there was a demand for more than just pistols. In 1876, Wilhelm Mueller opened his own store called "The Gun Shop." At this time, Taylor was still part of Michigan Territory. The Gun Shop became one of the first Shooting Clubs in America and offered classes on how to shoot handguns as well as shotguns and rifles. Local residents also became adept at using these firearms to hunt deer and other game in the surrounding woods. Guns were also used to protect property from Indians during times of war. In 1898, after Michigan attained statehood, The Gun Shop moved to its current location on Main Street in Taylor. It would stay here until it closed its doors in 2004 due to financial reasons. Taylor, Michigan is a small town in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The population was 2,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Kalamazoo-Port Huron metropolitan area. The village of Taylor was incorporated on February 14, 1904. The Taylor community took its name from James Taylor (1820-1892), an early settler in what is now Taylor County, who donated land to the village for use as a public square. In 1875, residents voted to rename their village after General Ulysses S. Grant because he had been killed in action during the American Civil War and his widow had given birth to two daughters in that year. In 1907, postal service established a post office at what is now the corner of Third Street and Park Avenue in Taylor Village. The first postmaster was George Witherspoon (1867-1948). In 1916, members of the local school board recommended that agricultural students from nearby Manton attend school here instead of attending schools in Port Huron because there were no schools available for them there. That year, construction began on the first high school building; it opened on September 21, 1917 and served as one of four high schools in Kalamazoo Township until it closed down on October 15th, 1966 due to budget cuts by then-Governor William Milliken (D). On May 9th 1954 voters approved passage of a measure providing for township status for Taylorvillage and enabling voting rights for all residents regardless of whether they lived within or outside the township limits. On July 1st 1964 trustees passed an ordinance creating a police department; it was first staffed with officers when it opened on November 5th 1965 On January 1st 1969 trustees passed an ordinance making Taylorsville Reservoir open water which added an additional layer to its user base beginning with boaters only beginning May 15th 1971 while fishing from shoreline access points southbound out into Lake Erie; this also made Taylorsville homeport for both Muskegon County Sheriff's Department boat patrols off Muskegon Bayou between Sayre Marina near Grand Rapids and White Sands Marina northwest of White Sulphur Springs until 1980 when those patrols were transferred to nearby Eastpointe Harbor

Taylor was a small town in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan during the early 1800s. It was located on the shore of Lake Huron, about 20 miles north of Detroit. The community developed around a mill that operated from 1796 to 1854. After the death of its founder, John Taylor, the mill passed through several hands before it went into receivership in 1865 and was bought by Andrew Carnegie in 1876. In 1902, Carnegie donated the property to Taylor Township as part of his estate. The township was established in 1908 and grew quickly due to its location and access to water resources. The population peaked at 1,500 in 1922 but declined after World War II because of falling agricultural production and other economic troubles. Today, Taylor is a small rural community with a population size of about 100 people. Taylor has been home to many notable residents including President James Kiffmeyer (1901-1960), General Motors executive chairman Edward Lippincott (1920-1997), journalist Martha Kirby Coleman (1914-2001), author Loren Eisele (1929-2005) and basketball coach Rick Majerus (1977-present).
