For instance, if you're looking for a rifle mounted scoped at 100 yards instead of 50 yards like most people do, then increasing height would be necessary since 100 yards is closer than 50 yards. However, if you're aiming at someone 10 feet away instead of 1 foot away when mounted atop its stock with no height adjustment possible then reducing recoil will likely not matter as much since this person will already be significantly more difficult than any human target barring some incredibly beefy rifles! In addition, windage should always be considered when selecting an optic because having adjustable turrets can greatly improve accuracy regardless how well off center they may land - even at long ranges!
