St. Clair Shores is a city in Midwestern United States, located on the shores of Lake Michigan. It is the county seat of St. Clair County and one of the largest cities in Michigan. The population was 382,824 at the 2010 census, making it the third-largest city in Michigan. The metropolitan area has a population of 631,021 as of July 2016. The name "St. Clair" comes from French: "Saint-Clair" meaning "clear waters." In 1812, General Anthony Wayne's army invaded and conquered what is now Michigan Territory from Native Americans known as the Ottawa and Potawatomi tribes. General Wayne named his new territory for his victorious allies: "Saint-Claire". After becoming a part of the United States, St. Clair Shores became an important port for goods arriving from east to west across Lake Huron during this time period; its location made it ideal for shipbuilding and other industrial growth that has characterized much of downtown today. In 1825, when Congress created Detroit County (later Oakland County), St.-Claire became its county seat; however, by 1830 it had become too large for Detroit to support so it was moved to Flint where it stayed until 1836 when Detroit again took over control because Saint-Claire's charter having expired did not allow another town to be chartered until after December 12th (the date which would have marked Cadillac's incorporation into Oakland County). At this point most residents left for good but some kept their homes while others decided to move back into central or northMichigan due to changing social mores prevalent during those days including abolitionism which was growing concurrent with development along riverfronts such as Detroit & Cleveland In 1837 a group led by Elijah Howe proposed naming the city after General Anthony Wayne who had recently died at Battle Creek while leading American forces against British forces under Sir John Cavanagh - who had also been killed earlier that day at Battle Creek - precipitating Wayne's victory over British forces at Fort Dearborn near present day White Marsh Township in southeast Lansing Townshipessee However because many people living in downtown told him they didn't want anything named after him they were successful in getting City Hall renamed The Anthony Wayne Civic Center effective January 1st 1937 – thus continuing history with only two locales receiving formal recognition within our community thereby perpetuating pride & patriotism therein!

In 1837, a group of these Indian villagers, led by Captain John McLaren, organized a committee to purchase land in what is now Michigan. They approached George Eastman, a wealthy businessmen from Rochester, New York, and offered to sell him 1/2 mile of land on each side of the River Rouge for $5 per acre. This offer was accepted and the village soon began to grow. The first settlers were primarily farmers who grew corn and beans. By 1850, however, there were also several businesses in town including a millinery store and two taverns which served as local watering holes for the early residents. In addition to its role as an agricultural center, St. Clair Shores became known as a manufacturing center due to its production of wagon axles, shoes and other items used in industry. Over time, St. Clair Shores grew more residential than agricultural; however it still retains some vestiges of its pioneer days including aspects such as its three public square blocks with central plazas where citizens could assemble for meetings or trade goods during fairs (the first being held in 1851). Today's architecture demonstrates various stages through which St. Clair Shores underwent between 1830-1920; examples include Gothic Revival buildings erected around 1870-1880 (such as the Masonic Lodge building), Italianate style buildings built from 1890-1910 (such as First National Bank) and American Craftsman bungalows constructed from 1920-1950 (such as Lakeshore Drive home). Today's economy is based largely on manufacturing with significant research facilities located within the town limits along with several small businesses providing services outside the town boundaries such as accounting firms or health clinics
St. Clair Shores was founded in 1837 by Captain George Armstrong and his wife, Fanny. The town was named for the St. Clair River, which runs through it. In 1854, the town became a county seat and remains so to this day. The population of St. Clair Shores increased from around 1,000 in 1840 to over 10,000 by 1860 before declining again in the late 1800s and 1900s. However, the population has continued to grow steadily since 2000 and reached its current level of around 25,000 people as of 2018.
