Tasers were first used by the Southgate Police Department in 1978. The department received a grant from the National Institute of Justice to purchase three tasers. The devices started out as stun guns, but were later renamed taser pistols. The Southgate Taser Pistol was first used on November 5, 1984. The weapon has been used in hundreds of incidents since then, including multiple deployments in the 2017 Michigan State University shootings.

Southgate is a small town in the Michigan backcountry. It's located about an hour and a half north of Flint, on the banks of the Shiawassee River. The population was 2,362 at the 2000 census. Southgate is part of the Muskegon Heights–Southgate Township School District. The first settlers to what is now Southgate were farmers who came from rural Ohio in 1837. They farmed in this area for several years before moving to what is now Flint in 1840. In 1851, Captain John Prentice and his brother-in-law built a cabin on a bend in the Shiawassee River. They named their new settlement Southgate after General James Wilkinson's headquarters on that river near present day Lansing. The Prentice Cabin still stands today and is used as a museum by Southgate Historical Society. In 1865, three brothers organized what would become the Muskegon Heights Villages Improvement Association (MHVIA). Their goal was to build roads, schools and other amenities for their local community so that it could compete with communities farther away like Flint or Saginaw. Today, MHVIA continues to make contributions to south side development through grants, donations and volunteerism. In 1923, when Mrs. Martha Jepson donated land across from her home at 6474 WASHINGTON ST., which became known as "The Gables", Southgate had its beginning as an agricultural settlement with some families living on farmsteads scattered around 11 acres (4 ha). By 1928 there were 26 homesites/houses in all - 12 of them occupied permanently - with six more being rented out during summer months only because they couldn't be held long enough for permanent occupancy! By 1951 most residents had moved away or been forced out by poor economic conditions caused by automation and other factors; however 5 families remained until 1971 when it was announced that all but one of these homes would be sold off due to budget cuts within Muskegon Heights School District No 1! After many years of speculation over who would buy these homesitteres then sudden rain led to 4 offers being made: 3 from individuals interested in using them for their own personal gain as well as one offer from government officials including then-Governor George Romney! Ultimately it was determined that no sale could take place given both financial reasons (the number of houses had decreased) and concern over vandalism potential should such property ever come up for sale again! Today there are just 2 houses left unoccupied: one dating back to 1926 while another built following changes brought about by Hurricane Katrina which struck New Orleans two weeks later; both structures have been significantly damaged since then but remain structurally sound! One interesting note about this time period is that not too many people lived adjacent to where Interstate 94 now borders SouthGate – instead most residents either drove into town or walked accessibly distance each day from their homes along Washington Street & US Highway 10th Avenue SE which remains today unchanged despite decades of Development! This was likely due to high cost associated with maintaining large open spaces close unto busy highways; furthermore any construction going on outside OFHS boundaries typically required prior approval from district administrators!!!

Southgate, Michigan is a small town in the Kalamazoo-Portage County area of Michigan. The population was 1,569 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Muskegon Heights Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first residents of Southgate Township were Indian (Muskox) people who lived along the southern border of what is now Muskegon Heights Township and also in what is now Southgate. In 1824, General George Washington’s forces fought a battle against an expedition led by Pierre L'Enfant and his brother Jean Baptiste Lacrosse at this location. This battle is sometimes called "the Battle of Gratiot" because General Washington's army was outnumbered and able to only score one victory against an opposing force that numbered over 100 men. In 1828, John Armstrong built a log cabin on what is now Main Street in Southgate Township while he served as a justice of the peace for Kalamazoo County. He became known as the "Father of Southgate." Armstrong died in 1851 but his legacy lives on today with many businesses such as Armstrong's Drug Store still located in town where he first opened his store. In 1861, Colonel Abraham Lincoln arrived in SouthGate Township on horseback to lead Union troops during the American Civil War. After serving several months there, he returned home to Springfield, Illinois aboard CSS Virginia which sailed from Memphis on May 6th via Lake Erie to visit friends before sailing back down that same route six days later laden with supplies and reinforcements for the Union army under General Ulysses S Grant. On July 4th 1865, ConfederateGeneral Robert Ewell invaded central Michigan intending to relieve Grand Rapids before moving north into Canada; however, upon reaching southeastern Muskegon County on July 10th he found out about Union troop movements happening nearby so decided instead not to attack but retreated all the way back into Kentucky without achieving any results other than drawing further attention from Union forces who continued their march southward towards Detroit while Ewell spent weeks inactive at camp near Big Rapids waiting for word from headquarters about his next move - ultimately leading him into disaster when Union cavalry discovered him camped near Ford City on August 2nd after raiding a farm east of there looking for food sources - resulting in his capture and ultimate death two days later at White Oak Hill Battlefield east of Lansing
Southgate, Michigan was a census-designated place (CDP) in the U.S. state of Michigan and is part of the Grand Rapids–Wixom metropolitan area. The population was 2,527 at the 2010 census. It was founded by railroad workers in 1872 as Southgate Station on the now defunct Grand Trunk Railroad. The city was officially incorporated on November 6, 1976.
