Southfield is a city in Shiawassee County, Michigan, United States. The population was 14,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Kalamazoo-Portage Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in what is now Southfield was Nicholas Rowe in 1824. A post office called Southfield was established in 1828, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1861. In 1837, the township of Southfield and the village of Northville were organized. The township was disbanded by Order of Civil Government on December 12, 1840 due to lack of population growth within its borders; all townships were re-organized into boroughs on January 1, 1845 with an initial population of 3,,269 residents (though this number would grow to 7,,711 by 1860). The original Township government consisted only of a Captain John Parkhurst as Mayor and seven elders as councillors which increased when two additional elder councillors were appointed from each township’s council by then Governor Anthony Wayne upon its re-organization into borough form In 1847 through order for more land east of Saginaw River to be opened for settlement including a portion lying now within present day Southfield Township boundaries two more wards were formed: North Ward (now within present day Midland Township) and West Ward (now within present day Howell Township). These wards would remain largely unchanged until 1959 when they were replaced by an all ward system which still predominates today. On November 15th1859 during the early days before statehood Michigan General Assembly approved legislation creating an entire new county named Shiawassee County with its seat located at Bay City center with Southfields formal incorporation on December 12th following Southfields rapid growth led to much development taking place right outside its boundaries becoming known as "the town". Many famous people have lived or worked here including Dr. James Head who became head dentist at Griggs Hospital after moving here from Lansing where he had practiced as a dentist since 1827 and Orville Wright who developed his lightweight airplane design here while working on his first building project – the Wright brothers father's homeplace – Palmyra Hill near where he designed their flying machine factory

When it came into contact with an animal, such as a dog, it would discharge an electric current through the wire and into the animal. This weapon was very effective against large animals, such as horses or lions, because they were not able to resist being shocked until they died from the pain. In 1908, Westinghouse received a patent for his new invention, which became known as the taser. The taser is still in use today and is considered one of the most deadly weapons ever created.

In 1876, Professor Franz Mesmer used electricity to cause people to experience hallucinations and see things that were not there. This method of treatment became known as Mesmerism.
Southfield is a town in Wayne County, Michigan, United States. The population was 11,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Detroit Metropolitan Area. Southfield was founded on July 24, 1837 by Solomon Northrup and others as a Methodist church settlement. The first pastor for Southfield was Rev. James Cushing. The township of Southfield was organized on March 5, 1868 from portions of unorganized Wayne County and became a part of the larger city of Detroit in 1889 when that city was created from portions of Oakland Township, which also included Southfield. In 1934 it became one of the six townships within the newly formed City of Detroit annexed from Wayne County; this annexation removed most residents from what had been Southfield Township but left its core land withstanding until 2007 when it was merged into the new city proper. In 1801, Southfield was founded as a town by Rev. John L. Smith, who had come to the area from Grand Rapids. The first settler in the town was Nicholas Romer, who arrived in 1802. In 1807, the Township of Southfield was organized and named for Rev. Smith. In1819, the Town of Southfield became an independent city when it joined the Michigan Territory under the leadership of Genesee County Executive James Kieft. On January 1, 1925, Southfield merged with neighboring village of East Lansing to form one municipality called SouthFIELD CITY OF MICHIGAN
