South Lyon, Michigan is a small city in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, United States. The population was 7,827 at the 2010 census. South Lyon is part of the Lansing–East Lansing Metropolitan Statistical Area. The area that now makes up South Lyon was first settled by German immigrants in 1814. The town was named after South Lyons Township, on the border of present-day Detroit and Washtenaw counties. In 1847, when Washtenaw County was created from parts of Gray and Oakland counties, its eastern boundary lay just south of what is now South Lyon. As part of a national trend towards suburbanization during the early 21st century, businesses and jobs moved away from downtown while families grew increasingly scattered throughout an ever-widening rural area known as "the Quad Cities". As services became more clustered in downtown areas such as Lansing or East Lansing (and northward), new development sprang up around former industrial sites like North Park Lake and Holyoke Road/Upper Saginaw Boulevard; these areas are now home to many high-end restaurants and luxury housing developments catering to both professional employees and retirees living off government pensions or other government benefits. In recent years there has been a renewed interest in preserving much of essence from this older section of town including architecture and character features which have long been missing from newer areas near Interstate 94; starting with revitalization efforts started in 2009 attention has turned to restoring old churches along Saginaw Boulevard between Woodward Avenue and I-94 while also initiating plans for a new park adjacent to Union Station on Grand River Street which would encompass portions once used by local meatpacking companies before they were closed down by Hormel Foods corporate headquarters move over several decades ago.

South Lyon is a village in Shiawassee County, Michigan, United States. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Lansing–Mansfield Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Village of South Lyon was organized on December 2, 1892 when the Township of South Lyon and the Village of Clairton amalgamated. The first residents were white farmers who had bought land in what is now Clairton from Indian tribes. The name "South Lyon" was given to the village because it lay south of a belt of high hills that protected it from attack by Native Americans. In 1907, construction began on what would become South Lyon's first school- which opened in 1908. In 1912, voters approved a plan for annexation by Lansing and Manton Township which created two new townships - North Lansing and East Lansing - making South Lyon an unincorporated community within those municipalities. In 1927, voter approval added another small town - Westphalia - to make up the total population of South Lyon Township. In 1950 South Lyon became one block longer when North Lansing merged with its neighbor to the east to form East Lansing; this change also affected how much money individuals could bring into town for shopping purposes (the original block size). However, despite these changes in demographics little has changed over time other than some transformations in home ownership patterns: since 2000 more people have moved out of town than into it (although there has been some growth here as well). Today, most residents are descendants or friends/relatives of early settlers or work people who built homes during interwar years when prices were lower and labor harder to find outside Detroit while many jobs remained open inside Michigan's largest city limits; even today many families still own their homes outright rather than rent them out although housing costs have increased rapidly here recently again outpacing wage growth statewide overall which continues unabated). Although economic conditions have changed somewhat since then there are few if any job openings available outside Carter Lake nuclear power plant where manufacturing jobs once thrived but now number about fifty thousand fewer positions year-over-year due mainly to automation and competition from countries such as China; nonetheless many children attend local schools located within walking distance so active citizenship remains strong here despite limited opportunities for paid work outside church/community service duties etcetera
