South Lyon is a city in Bay County, Michigan, United States. The population was 9,721 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Lansing–Warren–Dearborn metropolitan area. The town of South Lyon was founded in 1824 by immigrants from Germany and Austria. The first settler was Andreas Kappeler. In 1829, John Haggerty built the first school in South Lyon. A Methodist church was built in 1830 and dedicated by Governor George Washingtion. South Lyon became a city on December 12, 1849, when it merged with neighboring village of Warren to form a new city government under the name of South Lyon Township. In 1863, Jno Ewing started an engine manufacturing company near present-day downtown South Lyon using his kin's holdings and land east of present-day Michigan Avenue along the Ottawa River. This business grew into one of Bay County's most successful firms and remained active until 1958 when it closed its doors due to financial difficulties caused by World War II Japanese American internment policies. South Lyons supported many local businesses during its heyday including three banks (the First National Bank building still stands), two grocery stores (the Merchants' Exchange and the Park Plaza), four breweries (the Pabst Brewery and two others), six automotive plants (four Detroit companies - Alcoa, Chrysler, Ford Motor Company - as well as Plymouth) and twelve textile mills producing clothes for Sears Roebuck Department Store customers around the world who shopped at their stores in Colgate-Palmolive products such as Tide laundry detergent or Woolworths cereal packages before moving out to individual homes for laundering on cold days inside large homeylene laundromats installed throughout postwar America which could seat up to 1500 people before closing for lunch each day during these later years due to lack of space now that all this freight has been moved across state lines onto Interstate 94 known now as MICHIGAN FREightLink which began operations on August 8th 1995 within driving distance of my house also called MIchigan FreightLink today also known as I-94 without any congressional hearings about this back then because there were no computer screens nor internet web pages back then like we have today except for occasional TV commercials about various product launches not related to our current topic but rather some other unrelated product launch happening somewhere else on some other day sometime ago

South Lyon is a small town in the Kalamazoo County, Michigan, United States. The population was 2,611 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Lansing–East Lansing–Dearborn Micropolitan Statistical Area. The town was laid out by fur traders in 1812 and named for John South Lyon, a captain with the Mackinaw Company who had been killed in a skirmish with Native Americans near what is now South Lyon Township. The first settler in what is now South Lyon Township was James Fenton, who arrived there in 1827. He built a cabin on Brush Creek and naming it Northwood after his home country of England. Fenton's farmstead still stands today on Brush Creek Road just east of present-day South Lyon Township. One of many early businesses within the township was J H Taylor & Sons Auctioneers which operated from 1858 to 1865 at 4 Main Street (now Third Street). In 1871, when south central Michigan became an area known as "the Wolverine belt", South Lyon became an important center for this agricultural industry due to its location along major transportation routes including the Grand Trunk Railroad and State Highway 10. In 1907, construction began on what would become one of America's largest aluminum smelters – Alcoa – across from present day South Lyon Township on Big Rapids Road. This new investment helped spur economic development withinSouthLyon over the next few decades as production increased from about 1 million pounds per year in 1951 to more than 11 million pounds by 1990; during that time, jobs grew from 20 percent of total employment to 60 percent over that period! 1Alcoa also left its mark upon local culture with annual Alcoa Festival held each summer here since its inception in 1984 attracting thousands of visitors!
The first settler in South Lyon was George Armstrong Capps, who arrived in 1824. He built a cabin on the east side of the river, about two miles from present day South Lyon. The first post office in South Lyon was established in 1825, and the first school was opened in 1830. In 1836, Samuel Morse built a cabin on the west side of the river. It is believed that he developed Morse Code while living in South Lyon. In 1840, John Neely bought land near present day North Park and founded Neely's Store. In 1845, Daniel Boone visited South Lyon and stopped at Neely's Store to buy goods for his journey southward into Indiana. During World War I, many soldiers died during battles or in accidents while serving abroad. Of particular note were Private First Class Oliver J. Briggs (USMC) who died as a casualty of action at Belleau Wood on October 24th 1915; Corporal Clarence Dorman (USN) who died as an accident when his motorcycle crashed into a tree near Belleau Wood on December 9th 1914; Sergeant Harry Aiken (USNR) who drowned after falling off his horse while landing from an airplane at pointblank range during combat over France on February 12th 1944; Private First Class Dick Smeaton (USARMY) killed by sniper fire as he walked through German lines near Dieppe on July 16th 1942 and Warrant Officer Frederick Leman ( USAF ) lost control of his fighter aircraft During Air Combat Over Japan On September 2nd 1945 South Lyon Township - organized November 15, 1850 # of original residents: 7
