Gun targets have been a part of Saginaw, Michigan since at least the 1800s. The first target shoot in what is today Saginaw was on October 12th, 1814. At that time, the Treaty of Greenville was signed between France and Britain which saw the end of the Napoleonic Wars. The Treaty created a line of control between Great Britain and her old enemy France. French traders were allowed to bring firearms into British territory but they were not allowed to sell them. This put a lot of restrictions on how people could use their guns and made it difficult for Americans to get hold of pistols or rifles. However, there were some exceptions- American soldiers were able to buy guns from captured French weapons dealers. One such dealer was John Wilkinson who operated out of an old mill on the east side of town. In 1827, Wilkinson started selling handguns called “Pistols” which he named after states in America (e.g., Ohio). He also began manufacturing ammo for these firearms which helped make them more affordable for consumers. his shop became well known across the United States and he even exported his products abroad! In 1844, John Dennison opened his own gun store in what is now downtown Saginaw with help from his father-in-law William Wirtz Sr.. The two men pooled their money and founded Wirtz & Company which became one of Saginaw’s leading businesses during this time period! Dennison continued running Wirtz & Company untilhis death in 1903; however, it is still active as an ammunition company today! In addition to firearms sales, Dennison also ran a bakery and ladies’wear store on Broad Street in downtown Saginaw throughout his career! From its early days as an arms dealership through its current incarnation as an ammunition company, Wirtz & Company has contributed greatly to the development of both Saginaw and Michigan as a whole!

Saginaw, Michigan is a city in Midwestern United States. The population was 25,715 at the 2010 census. It is the largest city in the Saginaw metropolitan area and the third-largest city in Bay County. The first Europeans to visit what is now Saginaw were French fur traders in 1701. They named it "Nasagawa" after an ancient Japanese village of that name. In 1836, as part of the Act of Congress creating Bay County, Michigan, Saginaw was chosen as its capital. The site for the new county courthouse had been selected by General James K. Polk while he was president on a tour of America's Upper Peninsula region during late winter 1836–37; his choice was based on its location within easy reach of both Detroit and Grand Rapids, which would soon become major American cities. As Oakland County became separate from Bay County in 1907, Saginaw’s status as county seat reverted to that of its original capital until 1959 when it again became co-capital with Lansing following enactment of legislation authorizing two additional counties (Lansing and Genesee) within Bay County. At present day all three counties have their own governing institutions but are still considered part of Michigan’s “one state” under the Constitution provision known as Article I Section 8: “No State shall lay any hands upon them without my consent; nor shall they be divided into more than three provinces or districts without my consent likewise: And I do hereby expressly ordain and establish this town amongst others towards making me more agreeable to Almighty God and His people…” This ordinance designated Saginaw one of only eight townships in Michigan to be vested with full local government having a police chief and attorney general elected by popular vote rather than appointment by state officials—a unique form of self-government then common throughout much Northern America due largely to Revolutionary War veteran Joshua Frye's advocacy work mounted through his organization called "Michigan Equalization League." Legislation facilitating incorporation by referendum followed suit in 1911; incorporation occurred on November 3 same year achieving charter status as an incorporated municipality effective January 1 1912 In 1915 City Council adopted a resolution establishing racial segregation into municipal housing policy effective immediately following World War I ahead of state laws prohibiting such discrimination even though many businesses refused to participate because they feared public opinion might support race equality when confronted with wartime shortages resulting from federal war spending priorities . From 1916 until 1933 all elective offices except school board membership were conducted through party caucuses rather than open primaries so nomination contests could be excluded from voter rolls thereby minimizing competition for office not likely to reflect popular sentiment since most incumbents remained unchallenged regardless of party affiliation At about this time City Council began using statutory powers granted them by charter for social service purposes such as youth parades/picnics etc.—the first municipally sponsored event ever held outsideOf traditional civic functions This approach ceased abruptly just prior to World War II when party caucus rules changed back to open primaries which gradually became more prevalent throughout postwar period culminating with passage of Motor Voter Act Amendments DNC v Clinton (1994) which effectively abolished locally sponsored elections statewide
