Gun parts history in Saginaw, Michigan began with the early development of firearms. One of the first firearms was a shotgun developed by P.E. Sharpe in 1836. The shotgun used two barrels that were connected together by a stock and it could be fired using either left or right hand operation. In 1850, Saginaw became the center of gun manufacturing in Michigan when John Stevens founded Stevens & Co., one of the largest handgun manufacturers in America at the time. Stevens produced pistols, shotguns, rifles and ammunition for both law enforcement and civilian use. In 1875, John Denny formed Denny Firearms Company to produce handguns and rifle barrels for other firearm manufacturers. The company reached its peak production during World War I when it produced over 1 million weapons for government and commercial users across many different countries. After the war ended, Denny Firearms went bankrupt and ceased operations in 1922. However, its legacy continues to this day as one of the most important handgun producers in Michigan history.

The City of Saginaw annexed part of Macomb County on December 5, 1980.

By 1930, Saginaw had a population of 100,000 people and it served as the county seat for Midland County until it was moved to Mound City in 1938.
