When the Royal Oak Police Department first began using tasers in 1984, there was much debate over their potential use. Today, there are approximately 2200 law enforcement agencies across America that have either adopted or are considering adopting taser usage as a standard tool for policing operations. In Royal Oak alone, this number has grown from only seventy-six officers in 1984 to nearly 350 today! This growth is likely due in part to the increasing awareness of TASERs as an effective weapon against crime – both domestically and internationally – as well as their ability to incapacitate suspects quickly without fatalities or serious injury.

In 1916 when Detroit merged with its neighbor Stroudsburg into the new United States City of Detroit, RoyalOak lost all local government authority but continued to exist as an unincorporated community within that larger municipality until 1978 when it regained full municipal status under then- Mayor Coleman Young's mayoralty as part of his effort to revive downtown Detroit as an economic engine for both cities!. In 2002–2003 Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick ordered contractors working on renovations of Red Wings arena not to break into any old RoyalOak homes during those renovation project; this order was later rescinded due to public outcry! As part of his overall goal for revitalizing downtownDetroit during his final years in office—-toward which he dove headlong—-Kilpatrick established a Special Preservation Commission which has since overseen extensive restoration work Downtown including demolishing numerous obsolete buildings dating back centuries and replacing them with modern architecture such as Arts District apartments (now known as One Woodward Ave.), One Ford Center shopping mall (formerly Olympia Park), Masonic Temple (now called The Palace), Grandview Heights Shopping Center and much more! Today there are over 100 businesses located inside or near Old RoyalOak built between 1800-1920! Some have even survived up through recent years despite repeated vandalism by vandals looking for easy targets! The first store opened in Royal Oak on May 1, 1814 by Elisha Cooks and other merchants from Flint River Township (now part of Detroit). In 1816 Royal Oak became part of Washtenaw County and was incorporated as a city under its own charter granted on December 12 that year by Governor Colcord Morris. In 1827, the first railroad line reached RoyalOak; this helped to spur development including mills and other businesses along what is now State Route 231 between downtown RoyalOak and Midtown Detroit. By 1830, when Detroit's first streetcars arrived downtown to connect with the Grand Trunk Railway at Woodward Avenue station, there were over 20 businesses operating in what is now Downtown RoyalOak alone! Asgrow Grains began operations here in 1922 as one of several giant Midwest grain companies that dominated American agriculture until restructuring following market deregulation in 2007 led to increased competition from international agribusinesses such as Monsanto AG (Monsanto) - which acquired Asgrow - although some smaller companies continued to operate until 2003 when all but one closed down due to pressure from larger players in the agricultural industry.. Today there are only a few small family-owned groceries remaining scattered throughout Downtown RoyalOak while large tracts have been turned into high-rise office towers or homesites/condos associated with major global food companies like Archer Daniels Midland(ADM), Bunge Co., Del Monte Foods WFC (Del Monte), Tyson Foods Inc., Mead Johnson Nutritionaceuticals PLC (Mead Johnson) among others..

It has been called "the cultural capital of east central Michigan" because of its concentration of art galleries, theaters, and music venues. The first European settlers arrived in what is now Royal Oak in 1812 under leadership from General John Custer and his men during an expedition led by Major George Armstrong Custer to find new land for the United States army. The town was founded on May 15, 1813 as a trading post between Detroit and Ionia County while also serving as a military base for operations against Native American groups such as The Shawnee and Potawatomi people. In 1816, Royal Oak became one of five cities within Wayne County when that county was created from part of Ottawa County. During World War II (1939-1945), RoyalOak played an important role in development through its productionof munitions including aircrafts and tanks used by Allied forces during World War II. After the war ended, many factories closed but various businesses kept open including computer manufacturer Compaq Computer Corporation which moved its headquarters from oakland toroyaloak in 1997; Ford Motor Company's Dearborn plant opened therein 2003; Michelin tire company founded their North America headquarters herein 2006; candy maker Cadbury Schweppes’ parent company PEP Foods Inc., formed out of a merger between two chocolate companies - Fanta Holdings plc./Fantasia International plc., merged with Hershey Co., Ltd., creating world's largest chocolate group - established their global headquarters herein 2007; Continental Tire & Rubber Co.'s Windsor Essex facility opened therein 2009; Brownson Manufacturing Company closed down after decades located at 4381 Gratiot Avenue NE originally built therefor by David Brownson who started it up as a blacksmith shop back in 1867 before moving it to its current location four years later when he began producing alloys for cars starting with GMC trucks) among others... In 2000, Forbes magazine ranked RoyalOak #1 on their list " 25 Cities That Made America". In 2002-2003 weekend only volume (published weekly), local paper 'Superior' included articles about how hardworking citizens were keeping things going despite economic recession caused by technology layoffs at local companies like Compaq PC Corporation... During this time period several landmark buildings took shape downtown such as Stedman Hall which housed then Wayne State University until it moved out into Midtown Campus housing beginning around 1990Original plans call for building downtown near Gratiot Avenue but construction didn't begin until after school weekday mornings due to funding issues Original plans called for student union on top floor instead facing downtown however that idea never came to fruition because university would not give away property rights parking lot across street FROM STEDMAN HALL original plans included skyscraper next to harbor light show which would have made it onelest City Beautiful type structure however that idea too failed to gain traction either... In recent years residents have campaigned unsuccessfully against attempts by Snyder government to demolish several old buildings Downtown including Stedman Hall so they can make way for more expensive new developments
