On February 2nd 1861*, Lansing merged with Macomb Township to form one new county called Oakland County (*the portion east of Mackinac Bridge today forms Wayne County). In 1889* Detroit annexed much of Highland Park east of Woodward Avenue including most present-day Royal Oak*.* Ford Motor Company established their Rouge factory there in 1911 which created many jobs within and outside the city limits*.* However by 1932** all production had been moved to Dearborn Heights and other plants throughout America were gradually closed down across most industries*****) *This last activity has resulted in significant pollution problems due to emissions from former Rouge plants near Dearborn Heights *****) On November 6th 2014 during President Barack Obama's final State Visit to Michigan he delivered a speech about Flint water crisis entitled: "Flint: A Crisis That requires Our Attention"*****) In this speech he announced his plans to provide financial assistance towards retraining local citizens so they can be moreimble with their finances and also assist with repairs necessary if flint needs are not fixed soon enough

Royal Oak is a city in Oakland County, Michigan, United States. The population was 8,844 at the 2010 census. It is the county's second-largest city and the seat of Oakland County. The first permanent settler in what would become Royal Oak was Nicholas Lyon in 1828. He founded a trading post on the western bank of the Detroit River where he named it Lyon's Post (later renamed Royal Oak). In 1830, John Burt leased land from Lyon for a mill on the Rouge River. The mill became successful and helped to start the town's growth. By 1838, Royal Oak had an total population of 509 people and was incorporated as a village. In 1849, General James Rose purchased 3 acres (10 acres) of land east of present-day Royal Oak from Nicholas Lyon for $18 ($ today). The area became known as Roses Bluff because it overlooked that part of Detroit Heights which later became downtown Detroit. Rose built his home there and called it Bellefontaine House after Bellefontaine Avenue in Detroit Heights which ran parallel to his property line. He also developed some small businesses in what would become downtown RoyalOak including a bakery operated by Elijah Whitehead and two wagon ways (one still extant) used by postal carrier George Hargrave to deliver mail between Bellefontaine House and Dearborn Heights during early 19th century America's busiest era! Bellefontaine House remained standing until 1922 when it burned down due to an electrical fire caused by faulty wiring inside one of its walls!. Following this event, several other homes were added to Bellefontaine Estate including: Mrs Hargrave's house - now located at 6405 Woodward Avenue - Drury Lodge - now located at 9600 Plymouth Road - Montrose Place - now located at 14705 Pontiac Road; finally Mr Whitehead’s grocery store remains standing on Park Street adjacent to current day Monroe Elementary School! All these structures are contributing assets within HistoricRoyalOak today! The establishment of Ford Motor Company headquarters directly acrossing from Roses Bluff led directly to increased development around that corner with much more commercial activity taking place than ever before! Royal Oak was founded in 1837 by General John C. Frémont and his family. The city was named for the ancestral home of the Frémonts, which had once been located in what is now Superior Township. Royal Oak grew rapidly during the 1840s, thanks to its location on the Fox River and its availability of timber and land. In 1851, Royal Oak became a town, and in 1865 it became a city. The population of Royal Oak increased rapidly throughout the 19th century, reaching more than 100,000 by 1900. However, during World War I (1914-18), Royal Oak experienced significant growth as troops moved into the city from all over Michigan to fight in Europe. By 1940, however, the population had decreased to about 30%, due to high levels of defense spending during World War II. After the war ended, RoyalOak began to experience continued growth thanks to new businesses and immigrants who arrived after the war. In 1968, it became an official suburb of Detroit.
